- | - | Although there is a report that in a inhalation exposure test with rats during gestation days 6 - 19, no embryotoxic, teratogenic, or fetotoxic effects were seen at a dose level where parental animals showed body weight gain reductions (HSDB (2003)), classification was not possible due to lack of data for sexual function and fertility of parental animals. | FY2009 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (March, 2009) |
8 | Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure | Category 2 (kidney) |
Warning |
H371 | P308+P311 P260 P264 P270 P405 P501 |
Within 2 days following 4-hour inhalation exposure at 100 - 540 ppm, rats exhibited dose-related proximal tubular necrosis, increases in urinary fluoride, urinary LDH activity, serum creatinine and BUN (HSDB (2003)). Since these effects are observed at dose levels within the guidance value range for Category 2, the substance was classified into Category 2 (kidney). | FY2009 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (March, 2009) |
9 | Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure | Category 2 (kidney) |
Warning |
H373 | P260 P314 P501 |
Rats inhaling 1097 - 1240 or 491 - 539 mg/m3 for 7 weeks (6 hr/day, 90-day equivalent: 104 - 118 ppm or 47 - 51 ppm) showed necrosis and degeneration in the kidney tubules (HSDB (2003)). Rats inhaling 241 ppm for 2 weeks (6 hr/day, 90-day equivalent: 37 ppm) showed signs of toxic nephrosis (HSDB (2003)). In a 13-week inhalation test by exposure to 29 - 121 ppm, dose related changes in biochemical indices and organ weights were observed. Additionally, histology revealed kidney toxicity and the middle portion of the kidney cortex showed large, usually dilated tubules lined by enlarged epithelial cells with enlarged nuclei (HSDB (2003)). Since these effects on the kidney are observed at dose levels within the guidance value range for Category 1 and are reported in a document in List 2, the substance was classified into Category 2 (kidney). | FY2009 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (March, 2009) |
