FY2006 Accident Information Report is Ready

The National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE) today released the Annual Report based on the Accident Information collected in FY2006.

  • NITE collects information pertaining to accidents involving consumer products, investigates the causes, and then publicizes the accident information upon completion of investigations and analyses. The FY2006 report has been compiled and is now available.
  • The number of cases collected in FY2006 was 4,084. The net number of accident cases was the largest ever at 3,382, counting multiple reports concerning the same product as a single case, while discounting cases where the product was found not to be the cause and cases concerning products not under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Trade, Economy and Industry.
  • The Consumer Product Safety Law was revised on May 14, 2007. As for FY2007, the newly introduced report and disclosure system for serious accidents raised the safety awareness of businesses and consequently increased the number of non-serious accident reports submitted to NITE. (4,200 cases as of October 31, 2007; 230% year on year)
