NITE (National Institute of Technology and Evaluation; President: Itaru Yasui) gave a presentation for the media on preventing accidents involving microwaves and products used in combination with microwaves as shown in the attached materials.

- Of the product accident information reported to the NITE Product Safety Technology Center, the number of accidents involving microwaves and products used in combination with microwaves (hereinafter referred to as "microwave-related accidents") amounted to 706 for the five-year period from fiscal 2006 to 2010 on a "date of occurrence" basis. Of the microwave-related accidents, 606 accidents involved microwaves and 100 accidents involved products used in combination with microwaves. Of the microwave-related accidents excluding "accident whose cause is unclear" and "accident under investigation," "accident caused entirely by design, manufacturing, or indication problems" and "accident which is considered to have been caused entirely by improper or inadvertent use" each occupy a large proportion. Accidents that took place within one year from the start of use of the products have also occurred frequently. We urge you to take note of the accidents to prevent such accidents by proper use of the products and to ensure the delivery of company announcements and recall information.
