DoBISCUIT

We developed a literature-based database about known secondary metabolite biosynthetic gene clusters.

DoBISCUIT
(Database of BIoSynthesis clusters CUrated and InTegrated = DoBISCUIT)

This database currently provides information on 108 gene clusters (December 27, 2016).

Background

Secondary metabolites such as those produced by actinomycetes are important as lead-compounds and/or candidates for drug development. Polyketide synthases (PKSs) and non-ribosomal peptide synthetases (NRPSs) have been attracting much attention for their roles in constructing complex carbon frameworks of these compounds.
Although many scientific papers are published describing biosynthesis gene clusters of secondary metabolites every year, information about a particular gene cluster is often dispersed in many references and is not described in a comprehensive manner.

Summary of DoBISCUIT

1. Database of biosynthesis gene clusters
Integrates INSDC entries, PubMed references, compound information and strain information.
Collects all genes encoded in biosynthesis clusters.
2. Address genes by their biological functions
Re-annotates all genes based on controlled vocabulary and updated knowledge.
Classifies all genes based on their biological function.
3. Collects literatures information continuously
Follows literature after publication of gene cluster sequences.
Updates gene descriptions based on subsequent publications.

Newly added gene cluster (Dec. 27, 2016)

New information on gene clusters of 3 compounds (A40926, A47934, lydicamycin) was added to the DoBISCUIT.
The lydicamycin synthetic gene cluster of NBRC 110027 was sequenced and published (Komaki et al., 2015*).
