Category 4 because of its flash point: 93degC (BGIA, GESTIS-database on hazardous substancess, in Aug. 2006))
7 Flammable solids Not applicable - - - - Liquid (GHS definition)
8 Self-reactive substances and mixtures Not applicable - - - - There are no chemical groups associated with explosive or self-reactive properties present in the molecule.
9 Pyrophoric liquids Not classified - - - - The firing points is 93 degC (BGIA, GESTIS-database on hazardous substancess, Accessed in Aug.2006), and even if it contacts the normal temperature air, it does not ignite spontaneously.
10 Pyrophoric solids Not applicable - - - - Liquid (GHS definition)
11 Self-heating substances and mixtures Classification not possible - - - - Test methods applicable to liquid substances are not available
12 Substances and mixtures which, in contact with water, emit flammable gases Not applicable - - - - The chemical structure of the substance does not contain metals or metaloids(B, Si, P, Ge, As, Se, Sn, Sb, Te, Bi, Po, At).
13 Oxidizing liquids Not applicable - - - - Organic compounds containing no oxygen, fluorine and chlorine.
14 Oxidizing solids Not applicable - - - - Liquid (GHS definition)
15 Organic peroxides Not applicable - - - - Organic compounds containing no -0-0- structure
16 Corrosive to metals Classification not possible - - - - No data available

HEALTH HAZARDS
Hazard class Classification Symbol Signal word Hazard statement Precautionary statement Rationale for the classification
1 Acute toxicity (Oral) Classification not possible - - - - No data available
1 Acute toxicity (Dermal) Classification not possible - - - - It cannot be classified since there is only guinea pig dermal LDLo (minimum lethal dose) value of 100mg/kg (RTECS, 2006).
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Gases) Not applicable - - - - Liquid (GHS definition)
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Vapours) Classification not possible - - - - No data available
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Dusts and mists) Classification not possible - - - - No data available
2 Skin corrosion/irritation Classification not possible - - - - No data available
3 Serious eye damage/eye irritation Classification not possible - - - - No data available
4 Respiratory sensitization Classification not possible - - - - No data available
4 Skin sensitization Classification not possible - - - - No data available
5 Germ cell mutagenicity Classification not possible - - - - Although there is the report of in vitro mutagenicity test (a chromosome aberration test positives (RTECS, 2006), Ames test negative (HSDB, 2002)), there is no data of in vivo. And it cannot be classified because of insufficient data.
6 Carcinogenicity Classification not possible - - - - No data available
7 Reproductive toxicity Category 2 Warning H361: Suspected of damaging fertility or the unborn child P308+P313: IF exposed or concerned: Get medical advice/attention.
P201: Obtain special instructions before use.
P202: Do not handle until all safety precautions have been read and understood.
P281: Use personal protective equipment as required.
P405: Store locked up.
P501: Dispose of contents/container to ...
Since teratogenicity was seen in the teratogenicity study using pregnant sows (RTECS, 2006; HSDB, 2002) and it was presumed to be caused by pharmacological action on the uterus like that of nicotine (HSDB, 2002), it was set as Category 2. In addition, nicotine (ID 608, CAS: 54-11-5) and nicotine sulfate (ID 1069, CAS: 65-30-5) are set as Category 2.
8 Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure Category 2 (nervous system) Warning H371: May cause damage to organs (nervous system) P309+P311: IF exposed or if you feel unwell: Call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician.
P260: Do not breathe dust/fume/gas/mist/vapours/spray.
P264: Wash ... thoroughly after handling.
P270: Do not eat, drink or smoke when using this product.
P405: Store locked up.
P501: Dispose of contents/container to ...
It was considered as Category 2 (nervous systems) based on the description that it causes salivation, giddiness, distraction, vomiting, attack in humans (HSDB, 2002), and tremor and attack were observed in the guinea pig (HSDB, 2002; RTECS, 2006).
9 Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure Classification not possible - - - - Classification not possible due to lack of data
10 Aspiration hazard Classification not possible - - - - No data available
