According to ATSDR (1995), dermal sensitization tests done on exposed workers would provide information on the likelihood of developing an allergic response in humans following chlordecone exposure. Such a test was conducted on workers who worked in chlordecone-manufacturing plants, and the development of rashes was noted. Thus, the substance was classified into Category 1.
5 Germ cell mutagenicity Not classified - - - - Based on negative results obtained in a dominant lethal study using rats, as well as in vitro chromosomal aberration and Ames tests (ATSDR, 1995), the substance was classified into the "Not classified" category.
