PHYSICAL HAZARDS
Hazard class Classification Symbol Signal word Hazard statement Precautionary statement Rationale for the classification
1 Explosives Classification not possible - - - - It contains chemical groups (azoxy group) associated with explosive properties. Since no test results are available, classification is not possible.
2 Flammable gases (including chemically unstable gases) Not applicable - - - - Liquid (Colorless liquid (Chemfinder))
3 Aerosols Not applicable - - - - Not aerosol products.
4 Oxidizing gases Not applicable - - - - Liquid (Colorless liquid (Chemfinder))
5 Gases under pressure Not applicable - - - - Liquid (Colorless liquid (Chemfinder))
6 Flammable liquids Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
7 Flammable solids Not applicable - - - - Liquid (Colorless liquid (Chemfinder))
8 Self-reactive substances and mixtures Classification not possible - - - - It contains chemical groups (azoxy group) associated with explosive properties. Since no test results are available, classification is not possible.
9 Pyrophoric liquids Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
10 Pyrophoric solids Not applicable - - - - Liquid (Colorless liquid (Chemfinder))
11 Self-heating substances and mixtures Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
12 Substances and mixtures which, in contact with water, emit flammable gases Not applicable - - - - The chemical structure of the substance does not contain metals or metalloids (B, Si, P, Ge, As, Se, Sn, Sb, Te, Bi, Po, At).
13 Oxidizing liquids Classification not possible - - - - It is an organic compound containing oxygen (but not fluorine or chlorine), which is chemically bonded to nitrogen. Since no test results based on standardized testing methods are available, classification is not possible.
14 Oxidizing solids Not applicable - - - - Liquid (Colorless liquid (Chemfinder))
15 Organic peroxides Not applicable - - - - Organic compounds containing no bivalent -O-O- structure
16 Corrosive to metals Classification not possible - - - - No data available.

1 Acute toxicity (Oral) Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
1 Acute toxicity (Dermal) Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Gases) Not applicable - - - - Liquid
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Vapours) Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Dusts and mists) Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
2 Skin corrosion/irritation Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
3 Serious eye damage/eye irritation Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
4 Respiratory sensitization Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
4 Skin sensitization Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
5 Germ cell mutagenicity Classification not possible - - - - The following information was obtained regarding this substance: mice given an intraperitoneal administration showed DNA damage, reverse mutation test using Salmonella typhimurium gave positive results (RTECS, accessed in October 2007), and mouse lymphoma assay produced positive results (NTP DB, accessed in October 2007). However, since no appropriate in vivo test results have been acquired, classification is not possible.
6 Carcinogenicity Category 2 Warning H351: Suspected of causing cancer P308+P313: IF exposed or concerned: Get medical advice/attention.
P201: Obtain special instructions before use.
P202: Do not handle until all safety precautions have been read and understood.
P281: Use personal protective equipment as required.
P405: Store locked up.
P501: Dispose of contents/container to ...
Since the substance is rated as Group 2B by IARC S7 (1987), it was classified into Category 2.
7 Reproductive toxicity Category 2 Warning H361: Suspected of damaging fertility or the unborn child P308+P313: IF exposed or concerned: Get medical advice/attention.
P201: Obtain special instructions before use.
P202: Do not handle until all safety precautions have been read and understood.
P281: Use personal protective equipment as required.

Intraperitoneal injections to pregnant rats retarded postnatal development, resulted in reduced body, brain, kidney, liver, and spleen weights; in addition, microencephaly, reduced cerebral hemispheres, and defects in cortical mantle were noted (HSDB, 2003). This report indicates serious effects such as microencephaly. However, since this is an intraperitoneal injection test and because effects of the injection on parental animals are not explained, the substance was classified into Category 2.
8 Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
9 Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
10 Aspiration hazard Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
