HEALTH HAZARDS
Hazard class Classification Symbol Signal word Hazard statement Precautionary statement Rationale for the classification
1 Acute toxicity (Oral) Category 3 Danger H301: Toxic if swallowed P301+P310: IF SWALLOWED: Immediately call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician.
P264: Wash ... thoroughly after handling.
P270: Do not eat, drink or smoke when using this product.
P321: Specific treatment (see ... on this label).
P330: Rinse mouth.
P405: Store locked up.
P501: Dispose of contents/container to ...
From LD50 value 153 mg/kg (male), 188 mg/kg (female) (Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry report (Access on November 2008)) of the acute oral toxicity test (OECD TG 401, GLP) employing a rat, it was classified into Category 3.
1 Acute toxicity (Dermal) Classification not possible - - - - Classification not possible due to lack of data
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Gases) Not applicable - - - - Since it was a solid by the definition of GHS and inhalation in gas was not assumed, it was classified into "Not applicable".
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Vapours) Classification not possible - - - - Classification not possible due to lack of data
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Dusts and mists) Classification not possible - - - - Classification not possible due to lack of data
2 Skin corrosion/irritation Classification not possible - - - - Classification is not possible with inadequate data. In addition, it has been described that "Mild" (RTECS (1999)) was determined in the Draize test with rabbits although it is a source database of List3. "Mild or moderate irritation in rabbits"has been indicated in the MSDS of NIPPON SHOKUBAI (HPJ-1402-00-07 (2007)) although it is not a source of information given in List.
3 Serious eye damage/eye irritation Classification not possible - - - - Classification is not possible because there is no data. In addition, although it is not information source given in List, MSDS (HPJ-1402-00-07 (2007)) of NIPPON SHOKUBAI has described as "rabbit/It has corrosiveness."
4 Respiratory sensitization Classification not possible - - - - Classification is not possible since there is no data.
4 Skin sensitization Classification not possible - - - - Classification is not possible since there is no data.
5 Germ cell mutagenicity Classification not possible - - - - Although there is a description of positive in both of the in vitro mutagenicity tests (the chromosome aberration test employing a CHL/IU cultivation cell, the mutagenicity test employing a Salmonella typhimurium) under S9 mix nonexistence conditions (Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry reports (Access on November 2008)), classification is not possible because there is no data of in vivo examination.
6 Carcinogenicity Classification not possible - - - - Since no evaluation by major international evaluation agencies is made and there is no data, classification is not possible.
7 Reproductive toxicity Classification not possible - - - - In a combined repeated dose toxicity study and reproductive/developmental toxicity screening study in rats (OECD TG422, GLP), it was reported that "at doses at which some deaths were observed in mother animals, there were no effects on reproductive organs and capacity and no effects on fetuses and neonates were observed" (Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare Report (Access on November 2008)), but classification is not possible due to insufficient data.
8 Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure Category 1 (systemic toxicity) Danger H370: Causes damage to organs (systemic toxicity) P307+P311: IF exposed: Call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician.
P260: Do not breathe dust/fume/gas/mist/vapours/spray.
P264: Wash ... thoroughly after handling.
P270: Do not eat, drink or smoke when using this product.
P321: Specific treatment (see ... on this label).
P405: Store locked up.
P501: Dispose of contents/container to ...
In the acute oral toxicity test employing rats (OECD TG/401, GLP), "Diarrhea, locomotor activity reduction, paleness of ear and extremities were seen. There descriptions of "Abnormalities were not observed on and after 1st day after administration." and "proventriculus mucosa hypertrophy" (Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry reports (Access on November 2008)). These influences were seen within the range of the guidance value of Category 1. Although it is not a information source given in List, the data which suggests the irritation to the skin and the eye is indicated in MSDS (HPJ-1402-00-07 (2007)) of NIPPON SHOKUBAI and since the proventriculus mucosa hypertrophy is estimated to be due to the influence due to the irritation of the this substance, it is not adopted. As mentioned above, it was classified into Category 1 (systemic toxicity).
9 Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure Classification not possible - - - - It is written in the combination test of repeated dose toxicity study and reproduction screening study in rats (OECD TG 422, GLP) that there were ulcer and edema of anterior stomach mucous, anterior stomach hyperkeratosis, anterior stomach epithelial hyperplasia, and inflammatory cell infiltrate to anterior stomach mucous (Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare reports (Access on November 2008)). Although it is not the source of information given in List, MSDS (HPJ-1402-00-07 (2007)) of Nippon Shokubai Co., Ltd. contains the data which suggests stimulus property to skin and eyes. Since it is guessed that these symptoms of anterior stomach are affected by stimulus property of this substance, it is not adopted. Since there is no other data, classification is not possible.
10 Aspiration hazard Classification not possible - - - - Classification not possible due to lack of data
