HEALTH HAZARDS
Hazard class Classification Symbol Signal word Hazard statement Precautionary statement Rationale for the classification
1 Acute toxicity (Oral) Classification not possible - - - - Classification not possible due to lack of data
1 Acute toxicity (Dermal) Classification not possible - - - - Classification not possible due to lack of data
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Gases) Not applicable - - - - Since it was a solid by the definition of GHS and inhalation in gas was not assumed, it was classified into "Not applicable".
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Vapours) Classification not possible - - - - Classification not possible due to lack of data
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Dusts and mists) Classification not possible - - - - Classification is not possible because there is no data. In addition, it is written that there is only a little evaporation at 20degC, but it reaches the harmful level of suspended particulate quickly when it spreads (ICSC (2005)).
2 Skin corrosion/irritation Classification not possible - - - - Classification not possible due to lack of data
3 Serious eye damage/eye irritation Category 2A Warning H319: Causes serious eye irritation P305+P351+P338: IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing.
P337+P313: If eye irritation persists: Get medical advice/attention.
P264: Wash ... thoroughly after handling.
P280: Wear protective gloves/protective clothing/eye protection/face protection.
In the case of contacting to a dentistry assistant's eye directly, there is a description that "severe" anterior uveitis and corneal abscess occurred (HSDB (2003)). Since there was no description on resilience, it was classified into Category 2A. In addition, it is suggested that the influence to the eye of this substance is due to the mechanical damage due to the fibrous materials from the description of "this substance exists as a fibrous linear mineral in a clay deposit" (IARC 68 (1997)).
4 Respiratory sensitization Classification not possible - - - - Classification is not possible since there is no data.
4 Skin sensitization Classification not possible - - - - Classification is not possible since there is no data.
5 Germ cell mutagenicity Classification not possible - - - - Although there is a description of negative and in UDS test employing rat liver cells as an in vitro genotoxicity testgenotoxicity test and negative (IARC 68 (1997)) in SCE test employing rat thymus mesothelial thymocyte, classification is not possible because there is no data of an in vivo mutagenicity test etc.
6 Carcinogenicity Category 2 Warning H351: Suspected of causing cancer P308+P313: IF exposed or concerned: Get medical advice/attention.
P201: Obtain special instructions before use.
P202: Do not handle until all safety precautions have been read and understood.
P281: Use personal protective equipment as required.
P405: Store locked up.
P501: Dispose of contents/container to ...
Since IARC evaluates this article as group 2B only when its fiber length is longer thatn 5micrometer (IARC 68 (1997)), it was classified into Category 2.
7 Reproductive toxicity Classification not possible - - - - Classification not possible due to lack of data
8 Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure Classification not possible - - - - Classification not possible due to lack of data
9 Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure Category 1 (respiratory system) Danger H372: Cause damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure (respiratory system) P260: Do not breathe dust/fume/gas/mist/vapours/spray.
P264: Wash ... thoroughly after handling.
P270: Do not eat, drink or smoke when using this product.
P314: Get medical advice/attention if you feel unwell.
P501: Dispose of contents/container to ...
In 12-months inhalation exposure test employing rats, "hyperplasia of bronchoalveolar was seen. There is a description of "About 20% of this substance has fiber length longer than 6 mu m."(MAK/BAT (1993)), and this impact was seen within the range of the guidance value of Category 1. As mentioned above, it was classified into Category 1 (respiratory system). In addition, there is a description that, in the repeated inhalation exposure test of fiber length shorter than 2 mu m, significant effects was not seen. (MAK/BAT (1993)).
10 Aspiration hazard Classification not possible - - - - Classification not possible due to lack of data
