PHYSICAL HAZARDS
Hazard class Classification Symbol Signal word Hazard statement Precautionary statement Rationale for the classification
1 Explosives Not applicable - - - - There are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecules.
2 Flammable gases (including chemically unstable gases) Not applicable - - - - Liquid
3 Aerosols Not applicable - - - - Not aerosol products
4 Oxidizing gases Not applicable - - - - Liquid
5 Gases under pressure Not applicable - - - - Liquid
6 Flammable liquids Not classified - - - - Since the flash point by IUCLID(2000) is 224degC(open type), it was classified into Not classified.
7 Flammable solids Not applicable - - - - Liquid
8 Self-reactive substances and mixtures Classification not possible - - - - Classification not possible due to lack of data

10 Pyrophoric solids Not applicable - - - - Liquid
11 Self-heating substances and mixtures Classification not possible - - - - The test method suitable for liquid substances is not established.
12 Substances and mixtures which, in contact with water, emit flammable gases Not classified - - - - It is stable in water (water solubility 1.9 mg/L, HSDB(2003)).
13 Oxidizing liquids Classification not possible - - - - Although it is an organic compound including oxygen having chemically bound to elements other than carbon and hydrogen, classification is not possible due to lack of data.

16 Corrosive to metals Classification not possible - - - - Classification not possible due to lack of data

HEALTH HAZARDS
Hazard class Classification Symbol Signal word Hazard statement Precautionary statement Rationale for the classification
1 Acute toxicity (Oral) Not classified - - - - From a description of LD50 value of >15,480 mg/kg (IUCLID (2000)) and >24,000 mg/kg (HSDB (2003)) in the oral administration test employing rats, it was classified into "Not classified".
1 Acute toxicity (Dermal) Not classified - - - - From a description of LD50 value of >7,940 mg/kg (IUCLID (2000)) and >13,700 mg/kg (HSDB (2003)) in the dermal administration test employing rabbits, it was classified into "Not classified".
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Gases) Not applicable - - - - Since it was a solid by the definition of GHS and inhalation in gas was not assumed, it was classified into "Not applicable".
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Vapours) Classification not possible - - - - Classification not possible due to lack of data
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Dusts and mists) Classification not possible - - - - Saturated vapor pressure level of this substance (150degC)is 3.94 mg/L. Since the measured concentration in initiation temperature 125degC is 4.8 mg/L, and LC0 value is >4.8 mg/L in the 4-hour inhalation exposure test employing rats (IUCLID (2000)), classification cannot be specified when applying the mist standard, and classification is not possible.
2 Skin corrosion/irritation Not classified - - - - Based on the description, "slightly irritating" (IUCLID (2000)) in the Draize test with rabbits and the description, "the rabbit skin made to contact this plasticizing agent did not show irritation nor sensitivity,"(HSDB (2003)), it was classified into "Not classified".
3 Serious eye damage/eye irritation Classification not possible - - - - Although there is description of "slightly irritating" (IUCLID (2000)) in the Draize test employing rabbits, since data is insufficient, classification is not possible.
4 Respiratory sensitization Classification not possible - - - - Classification is not possible since there is no data.
4 Skin sensitization Classification not possible - - - - Although descriptions of "not sensitizing" (IUCLID (2000)) and that "any irritation or sensitizing properties were not indicated to skin of rabbits contacted to this plasticizer for 24 hours" (HSDB (2003)) were shown in the patch test to 200 persons, classification is not possible because of inadequate data.
5 Germ cell mutagenicity Not classified - - - - There is a description that "there is no evidence of the cytogenetical change at highest dose of 1,5000 mg/kg " in the cytogenetics test employing a rat in IUCLID (2000) (EPA/TSCA, GLP). Since IUCLID (2000) describes "The evidence of division delay was not found by the analysis of the mitotic index," the in vivo mutagenicity test (chromosome aberration test) employing a somatic was judged as negative, and it was classified into "Not classified". For an in vitro mutagenicity test, there are descriptions of "negative" in chromosome aberration test employing CHL/IU cultured cell (OECD TG473, GLP) (Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry reports (Access on November 2008)) and "negative" in the mutagenicity test employing Salmonella typhimurium and bacillus coli (OECD TG471, GLP) (Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry reports (Access on November 2008)).
6 Carcinogenicity Classification not possible - - - - Since no evaluation by major international evaluation agencies is made and there is no data, classification is not possible.
7 Reproductive toxicity Classification not possible - - - - Although there is a description as follows, "Although the body weight reduction in mother animals was observed at a high dose level (3,000mg/kg), teratogenicity was not observed" (IUCLID (2000)) in the forced oral administration study with rats of 6-15 day pregnancy (EPA/TSCA, GLP), classification is not possible, because the reproductive function related data are not available.
8 Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure Classification not possible - - - - There is a description of "The weight has slightly decreased at 24,000mg/kg, but after that, returned to normal body weight" in the single oral administration test employing male and female rats (HSDB (2003)). Although the effect has been seen in out of the range of guidance value of Category 2, classification is not possible due to insufficient data.
9 Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure Category 2 (liver, thyroid) Warning H373: May cause damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure (liver, thyroid) P260: Do not breathe dust/fume/gas/mist/vapours/spray.
P314: Get medical advice/attention if you feel unwell.
P501: Dispose of contents/container to ...
It is written in 28-day oral administration test in rats (Guidelines for 28-Day Repeat Dose Toxicity Testing for Chemicals (Japan), GLP) that there were blood cell cholinesterase low level and alkaline phosphatase low level in females, and browning of liver, centrolobular hypertrophy of hepatocytes, and hypertrophy of thyroid follicular epithelial cells in males and females, and thyroid gland enlargement in males, however, stop of administration brought relief, or recovery (Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare reports (Access on November 2008)). Since effects on liver and thyroid were found within the scope of the guidance value of Category 2, it was classified into Category 2 (liver and thyroid gland). In addition, IUCLID (2000) doesn't contain effects on the thyroid in 90- day mixed feed administration test in rats (Directive 87/302/EEC, GLP)about products of this substance which contain 4% or less of Triphenyl phosphate.
10 Aspiration hazard Classification not possible - - - - Classification not possible due to lack of data

ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS
Hazard class Classification Symbol Signal word Hazard statement Precautionary statement Rationale for the classification
11 Hazardous to the aquatic environment (Acute) Category 1 Warning H400: Very toxic to aquatic life P273: Avoid release to the environment.
P391: Collect spillage.
P501: Dispose of contents/container to ...
It was classified into Category 1 from 48 hours EC50=0.15mg/L of the crustacea (Daphnia magna) (AQUIRE (2008)).
11 Hazardous to the aquatic environment (Long-term) Category 1 Warning H410: Very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects P273: Avoid release to the environment.
P391: Collect spillage.
P501: Dispose of contents/container to ...
Since acute toxicity was Category 1 and there were no rapid degradability (not readily degradable, the decomposition by BOD: 1% (standard test method (4 weeks)) (Existing Chemical Safety Inspections Data (1991))), it was classified into Category 1.
