In 4-hour inhalation exposure test employing rats, lethal concentration is 100 ppm (ACGIH 7th, 2001), and LC50 value is 85 ppm (IUCLID (2000)). Since it is a liquid whose saturated vapor pressure level (20degC)is 39,500ppm, it was classified into Category 1by applying the gas standard. EU classification: T+;R26 is equivalent to the GHS Category 1.
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Dusts and mists) Classification not possible - - - - Classification not possible due to lack of data

It was taken as Category 1 from the descriptions that it had skin irritation as an impact to human (IARC 63 (1995)) and that it could be classified as corrosive with serious erythema, dropsy, and nonreversible chemical burn with average PII of 8.0/8.0 in the 4-hour skin irritation tests in rabbits (HSDB (2005)). European Union classification: Xi; 38 (EU-Annex I) is equivalent to the GHS Category 2.
3 Serious eye damage/eye irritation Category 1 Danger H318: Causes serious eye damage P305+P351+P338: IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing.
P280: Wear protective gloves/protective clothing/eye protection/face protection.
P310: Immediately call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician.
Since there is a description that it has eye irritation as impact to humans (IARC 63 (1995)), severe impairment is caused for the eyes of rabbits (HSDB (2005)) and the skin corrosion was classified as Category 1, it was classified into Category 1. In addition, it is described in ICSC (2003) that it shows corrosion behavior to the eye in short term exposure. EU classification: Xi; R41 (EU-Annex I) is equivalent to the GHS Category 1.
4 Respiratory sensitization Classification not possible - - - - Classification is not possible since there is no data.
4 Skin sensitization Category 1 Warning H317: May cause an allergic skin reaction P302+P352: IF ON SKIN: Wash with plenty of soap and water.
P333+P313: If skin irritation or rash occurs: Get medical advice/attention.
P261: Avoid breathing dust/fume/gas/mist/vapours/spray.
P272: Contaminated work clothing should not be allowed out of the workplace.
P280: Wear protective gloves/protective clothing/eye protection/face protection.
P321: Specific treatment (see ... on this label).
P363: Wash contaminated clothing before reuse.
P501: Dispose of contents/container to ...
It was classified into Category 1 from descriptions that textile workers indicated sensitizing properties (IARC 63 (1995)), and that there were some cases indicating sensitizing properties (HSDB (2005)).
5 Germ cell mutagenicity Category 1B Danger H340: May cause genetic defects P308+P313: IF exposed or concerned: Get medical advice/attention.
P201: Obtain special instructions before use.
P202: Do not handle until all safety precautions have been read and understood.
P281: Use personal protective equipment as required.
P405: Store locked up.
P501: Dispose of contents/container to ...
Since there was a description of "positive" (IARC 63 (1995)) in the chromosome aberration test employing the mouse energy proto-cell of the productive cell in vivo mutagenicity test, it was classified into Category 1B. In the in vitro examination, there are descriptions of "positive" (IARC 63 (1995)) in the reverse mutation test employing Salmonella typhimurium and "Chromosomal aberration and induction of micronuclei being observed in the humans lymphocyte" (Mutat Res.1995). EU classification: Muta. Cat. 3; R68 (EU-Annex I) is equivalent to GHS Category 2.
6 Carcinogenicity Classification not possible - - - - It was classified into group 3 by IARC (IARC 63 (1995)) C by EPA in 1991 (IRIS (2005)), and A3 by ACGIH (1998) (ACGIH 7th, 2001). Although it will be classified into "Not classified" if priority is given to IARC according to guidance, the classification basis data of IARC and of ACGIH are the same. Moreover, there is a description that the result of carcinogenicityity study by inhalation administration of this article for two years (systemic exposure) showed that "the generation of nasal cavity tumor with rare abiogenesis was deemed in a small number of cases, which was considered to be the evidence suggesting the carcinogenicityity to male and female F344-/DuCrj (Fischer) rats of this article. With mice, no increased incidence of tumors was not deemed in both male and female, and no evidence indicating the cancer original nature to male and female Crj:BDF1 mice of this substance was obtained" (Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry carcinogenicityity studies (2000)). As mentioned above, classification is not possible.
7 Reproductive toxicity Classification not possible - - - - Classification not possible due to lack of data
8 Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure Category 3 (Respiratory tract irritation) Warning H335: May cause respiratory irritation (respiratory tract irritation) P304+P340: IF INHALED: Remove victim to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing.
P403+P233: Store in a well-ventilated place. Keep container tightly closed.
P261: Avoid breathing dust/fume/gas/mist/vapours/spray.
P271: Use only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area.
P312: Call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician if you feel unwell.
P405: Store locked up.
P501: Dispose of contents/container to ...
It classified into Category 3 (Respiratory tract irritation) based on descriptions that it stimulates an upper respiratory tract strongly as a impact to humans (ACGIH (7th, 2001) and IARC 63 (1995)), and that the decreased respiratory rates was deemed by lower concentrations in the inhalation exposure test employing mice (IARC 63 (1995)). European Union classification: Xi;R 37/38 (EU-Annex I) is equivalent to Respiratory tract irritations.
9 Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure Classification not possible - - - - It has been described that, in 13 weeks oral administration test employing rats and mice, weight reduction of the rat at dose of 40 mg/kg (IARC 63 (1995)), and in 104-weeks inhalation exposure test employing rats and mice, decreased weight gain and intakes reduction were seen at dose of 12 ppm (Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare carcinogenicityity study (2000)). Although the observed affection is not a severe symptom, it is a test at low-dose. Therefore, classification is not possible due to insufficient data. EU classification: Xn; R48/22 (EU-Annex I) is equivalent to repeated exposure (oral).
10 Aspiration hazard Classification not possible - - - - Classification not possible due to lack of data
