Based on a LC50 value of 7 mg/L/4h (1336 ppmV) for rats (SIAR Dossier (2005)), the substance was classified into Category 3. Since saturated vapour pressure concentration is 22,369 ppm (117 mg/L) based on vapour pressure of 22.66 hPa at 25.7 degC (SIAR Dossier (2005)), the test was considered to be conducted for vapour with almost no included mists and classification criteria for gas was adapted.
1 | Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Dusts and mists) | Classification not possible | - | - | - | - | No data available. |
2 | Skin corrosion/irritation | Not classified | - | - | - | - | Since there is a report that moderate erythema and slight edema was caused at 24-hour but only scaling was observed 8 days after application in a rabbit skin irritation test (SIAR Dossier (2005)), and that the substance was "slightly irritating" (SIAR Dossier (2005)), the substance was classified as "Not classified" in JIS Classification (correspond to Category 3 in GHS classification). As relevant information, in EU classification, the substance is classified into Xi: R37/38. |
3 | Serious eye damage/eye irritation | Category 2B | - | Warning | H320: Causes eye irritation |
P305+P351+P338: IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. P337+P313: If eye irritation persists: Get medical advice/attention. P264: Wash ... thoroughly after handling. |
Since there is a report that slight erythema and slight edema were observed 1-hour after application and only a marginal erythema was detected after 24-hour, but no effects were seen 8 days after the application (SIAR Dossier (2005)), the substance was concluded to be "slightly irritating" (SIDR Dossier (2005)). The substance was classified into Category 2B. |
4 | Respiratory sensitization | Classification not possible | - | - | - | - | No data available. |
4 | Skin sensitization | Category 1 | Warning | H317: May cause an allergic skin reaction |
P302+P352: IF ON SKIN: Wash with plenty of soap and water. P333+P313: If skin irritation or rash occurs: Get medical advice/attention. P261: Avoid breathing dust/fume/gas/mist/vapours/spray. Based on a report that 4/10 animals were sensitized in a guinea pigs skin sensitization test (Maximization Test) (SIAR Dossier (2005)), the substance was classified into Category 1. As relevant information, the substance is classified into R43 in EU classification.
5 | Germ cell mutagenicity | Not classified | - | - | - | - | Based on a negative result in a mouse bone marrow micronucleus test (in vivo somatic cell mutagenicity test) (SIAR Dossier (2005)), the substance was classified as "Not classified". As relevant information, from in vitro mutagenicity tests, there is a report of a negative Ames test (SIAR Dossier (2005) and IUCLID (2000)). |
6 | Carcinogenicity | Classification not possible | - | - | - | - | No data available. |
7 | Reproductive toxicity | Not classified | - | - | - | - | In a combined 15-week subchronic inhalation toxicity test with a reproduction/developmental toxicity screening test in rats, significant systemic toxicity including mortality was observed in dams at a high dose level. Whereas the capability to cohabitate and to generate offspring were not affected at this dose level, the pre- and postnatal development of offspring was significantly impaired. The impaired postnatal development of the offspring was the consequence of an insufficient maternal care in the dams. So that means probably secondary to the marked maternal systemic toxicity (SIAR Dossier (2005)). Additionally, local effects, systemic toxicity, impairment of fertility and pre- and postnatal toxicity were not observed at the lower concentrations (SIAR Dossier (2005)). Based on this information, the substance was considered not to have adverse effects on sexual functions, fertility or development of offspring and was classified as "Not classified". |
8 | Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure | Category 3 (Respiratory tract irritation) | Warning | H335: May cause respiratory irritation (respiratory tract irritation) |
P304+P340: IF INHALED: Remove victim to fresh air and keep at rest in a position comfortable for breathing. P403+P233: Store in a well-ventilated place. Keep container tightly closed. P261: Avoid breathing dust/fume/gas/mist/vapours/spray. P271: Use only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area. P312: Call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician if you feel unwell. P405: Store locked up. P501: Dispose of contents/container to ... |
In a combined 15-week subchronic inhalation toxicity test with a reproduction/developmental toxicity screening test in rats, the concentration of 180 ppm (0.956 mg/L, 6 hr/day, 5 day/week) showed slight irritation to eyes and upper respiratory tract as well as impairment of body weight development in both sexes, mild impairment of renal function in the males, and reduced general state in both sexes. Two pregnant female animals in the group died. Both animals exhibited atrophy in the lymphoid tissues of spleen and thymus. Additionally, erosion/ulcer in the mucosa of the glandular stomach was observed in one animal (SIAR Dossier (2005)). Since repeated inhalation exposure of lower concentrations caused respiratory tract irritation, it is assumed that single exposure also causes respiratory tract irritation. The substance was classified into Category 3 (respiratory tract irritation).
9 | Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure | Category 2 (systemic toxicity) | Warning | H373: May cause damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure (systemic toxicity) |
P260: Do not breathe dust/fume/gas/mist/vapours/spray. P314: Get medical advice/attention if you feel unwell. P501: Dispose of contents/container to ... |

Based on the report, the substance was classified into Category 2 (systemic toxicity).
