For chlorinated naphthalene (polychloronaphthalene), there is a report that liver damage such as acute liver necrosis, hepatitis and jaundice, and skin damage were found in workers after repeated exposure (DFGOT vol. 13 (1999)). Symptoms reported in workers exposed to the substance included irritation of the eyes, fatigue, headache, anaemia, and haematuria (CICAD 34 (2001)). Systemic effects resulting in liver disease were reported only from the inhalation of fumes (CICAD 34 (2001)). At least 10 deaths were reported from acute atrophy of the liver (CICAD 34 (2001)). Severe skin reactions (chloracne) were reported after skin contact (CICAD 34 (2001)). Based on the information, the substance was classified into Category 1 (liver, skin, systemic toxicity).
