There was a case report stating that a 54-year-old man was hospitalized because of coma with myoclonic seizures and vascular collapse. Despite symptomatic treatment with artificial respiration, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and hemofiltration, life-threatening shock occurred with oliguria, metabolic acidosis and cardiac arrest, and thereafter he died. It was suspected that exposure to the substance contained in the herbicide was attributed to a cause of the death (HSDB (2004)), however, this data was not adopted for the evidence of the classification due to only one case report.

No data were available for this substance, however, it was known that thiocyanate inhibited the uptake of iodine in the thyroid and showed thyroid toxicity (CICAD (J) 61 (2004), ATSDR (2006)). In addition, thiocyanate was the primary metabolite of cyanides and it was reported that occupational exposure to cyanides induced thyroid dysfunction and goiter (CICAD (J) 61 (2004), ATSDR (2006)). Based on the information, therefore, the classification was determined as Category 1 (thyroid).
