After oral administration at the dose levels between 2300 and 5000 mg/kg to rats, symptoms observed in survivors included crouching posture, lethargy, inactivity and unsteady gait, and coma and collapse added at higher doses (SIDS (Access on Jul. 2010)). Additionally, it was also reported that the symptoms following dermal application at 7720 - 19300 mg/kg to rabbits included unsteady gait, collapse and anesthesia (SIDS (Access on Jul. 2010), ECETOC TR 95 (2005)). Based on these clinical signs after treatment, the substance was classified as Category 3 (narcotic effects).
9 Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure Classification not possible - - - - In the 2-week inhalation studies in rats and mice (mist, 0.15 - 1.01 mg/L/6hrs) (converted value as that of 90-day study: 0.023 - 0.155 mg/L/6hrs), no serious toxic damages were found, and the most remarkable findings in both species were increased liver weights without histopathological changes, which were considered as adaptive in nature (SIDS (Access on Jul. 2010)). While in the 90-day dermal application study in rabbits (dose levels: 965 - 9650 mg/kg/day), the only effects were narcotic reaction and deaths at the highest dose level of 9650 mg/kg/day, except local effects of skin reactions (SIDS (Access on Jul. 2010)). According to these results, although no serious effects were found in the 2-week inhalation studies in rats and mice, the classification was not possible because all the doses tested were within the guidance values. On the other hand, from the result that no serious effects were detected in the 90-day dermal application study in rabbits at the dose level beyond the range of the guidance values (965 mg/kg/day), the substance was classified as the category of equivalence to "Not classified" for dermal application. With regard to inhalation route, the classification was not possible due to lack of data. Therefore, the classification for specific target organ toxicity (repeated exposure) was concluded as "Classification not possible".
