This substance was used as the therapeutic drug for improvement of walking in multiple sclerosis. It blocks potassium channels and thereby increases acetylcholine and possibly noradrenaline release at nerve terminals. Although it has little effect on the autonomic nervous system or muscles, it produces major side effects on the central nervous system such as tremors, excitability, and convulsions (PATTY, 5th (2001)). It was reported that tonic-clonic convulsion occurred with symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and dizziness in one of two patients who ingested approx. 60 mg (HSDB (2010)). And it was reported that as acute poisoning symptoms by the substance, vellication, abdominal spasm, paresthesia of lower limbs, increased muscle tone, and confusion, etc. were noted (HSDB (2010)). Based on these documents in humans described above, the substance was classified as Category 1 (nervous system).

Although it has little effect on the autonomic nervous system or muscles, it produces major side effects on the central nervous system such as tremors, excitability, and convulsions (PATTY, 5th (2001)). It was also reported that as side effects in humans who was ingested low levels of the substance (5 - 30 mg/day), oversensitiveness, dizziness, memory alteration, arterial vasospasm, and peripheral paresthesia were shown. And in the case of higher doses as an accidental poisoning, additional effects such as weakness, feeling impending doom, dyspnea, agitation, etc. were noted (EPA RED (2007)). Based on these documents about humans, the substance was classified as Category 1 (nervous system).
