The substance was classified as Category 1 based on the documented case of "corrosive" (SIDS (2009)) resulted from the rabbit test in which necrosis and burns accompanied by erythema and edema were observed within 15 minutes of occlusive application of the test substance.

In the rabbit test, severe inflammation of the cornea and conjunctiva were observed immediately after instillation and persisted through 14 days. These effects were noted in the eyes of the washed group and non-washed group (SIDS (2009)). In the acute inhalation toxicity study in rats (dose levels: 0.86, 1.35 and 2.053 mg/L/4hrs, mist) (OECD TG 403, GLP-compliant), clinical signs such as salivation, nasal discharge, reddish and swollen nose, dyspnea, tonic convulsions, or tremors were observed at all exposure concentrations (equivalent to Category 1 or Category 2 of the guidance values), and the irritant effects in the upper respiratory tract and central nervous effects were reported (SIDS (2009)).
