HEALTH HAZARDS
Hazard class Classification Symbol Signal word Hazard statement Precautionary statement Rationale for the classification
1 Acute toxicity (Oral) Category 4 Warning H302: Harmful if swallowed P301+P312: IF SWALLOWED: Call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician if you feel unwell.
P264: Wash ... thoroughly after handling.
P270: Do not eat, drink or smoke when using this product.
P330: Rinse mouth.
P501: Dispose of contents/container to ...
Five LD50 values for rats (840, 1602, 1142, 2050 and 1575 mg/kg) were reported (IUCLID (2000)), and four of them corresponded to Category 4. The substance was classified as Category 4, since the majority of obtaining data corresponded to it.
1 Acute toxicity (Dermal) Not classified - - - - Based on the rat LD50 value of > 5000 mg/kg (IUCLID (2000)), the substance was classified as "Not classified".
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Gases) Not applicable - - - - Solid (GHS definition)
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Vapours) Classification not possible - - - - Insufficient data were available. The rat LC50 value of > 55.83 ppm/4hrs was reported (IUCLID (2000)). Since the value did not provide the basis for the classification, the classification was not possible. The test concentration (0.321 mg/L) was lower than 90% of the saturated vapor pressure concentration (1.38 mg/L), the criterion values for gas were adopted.
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Dusts and mists) Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
2 Skin corrosion/irritation Category 2 Warning H315: Causes skin irritation P302+P352: IF ON SKIN: Wash with plenty of soap and water.
P332+P313: If skin irritation occurs: Get medical advice/attention.
P264: Wash ... thoroughly after handling.
P280: Wear protective gloves/protective clothing/eye protection/face protection.
P321: Specific treatment (see ... on this label).
P362: Take off contaminated clothing and wash before reuse.
The substance was classified as Category 2 based on the documented case of "highly irritating" (IUCLID (2000)) resulted from the rabbit test (Federal Regulations, Title 16, Section 1500.41). As relevant information, in other rabbit test, the substance was evaluated as slightly irritating, or reversible irritating effects (IUCLID (2000)).
3 Serious eye damage/eye irritation Category 2B - Warning H320: Causes eye irritation P305+P351+P338: IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing.
P337+P313: If eye irritation persists: Get medical advice/attention.
P264: Wash ... thoroughly after handling.
The substance was classified as Category 2B based on the documented case of "slightly irritating" resulted from the rabbit test (Federal Regulations, Title 16, Section 1500.42) (IUCLID (2000)).
4 Respiratory sensitization Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
4 Skin sensitization Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
5 Germ cell mutagenicity Classification not possible - - - - The classification was not possible due to lack of in vivo test data. As relevant information, as for in vitro study, negative results in the Ames test were reported (NTP DB (Access on Oct. 2010), IUCLID (2000)).
6 Carcinogenicity Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
7 Reproductive toxicity Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
8 Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure Category 2 (central nervous system) Warning H371: May cause damage to organs (central nervous system) P309+P311: IF exposed or if you feel unwell: Call a POISON CENTER or doctor/physician.
P260: Do not breathe dust/fume/gas/mist/vapours/spray.
P264: Wash ... thoroughly after handling.
P270: Do not eat, drink or smoke when using this product.
P405: Store locked up.
P501: Dispose of contents/container to ...
In the acute oral toxicity studies administered at the dose levels of 800 - 3200 mg/kg for rats and 800 - 1600 mg/kg for mice (LD50 value: 2050 mg/kg for rats; 1100 - 1200 mg/kg for mice), clinical signs of toxicity observed included depression and loss of righting reflexes at 1600 mg/kg or more in rats, while depression in low dose group (800 mg/kg) and rigid body tone, tonus, tremors and loss of righting reflexes in the higher dose groups in mice (IUCLID (2000)). Since the doses of appearance of clinical signs were involved within the range of Category 2 of the guidance values, the substance was classified as Category 2 (central nervous system).
9 Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
10 Aspiration hazard Classification not possible - - - - No data available.
