A maximization test in guinea pigs (OECD TG406, GLP) reported sensitizing from dose-dependent positive rates of 45% (9/20), 50% (10/20), and 20% (4/20) in a challenge in test substance concentrations of 50%, 25%, and 5% respectively. (BUA Report 115 (1995), IUCLID (2000)) It remarked that this substance must be regarded as potential contact allergen for humans as a result (BUA Report 115 (1995)). Therefore, it was classified in Category 1.
Besides, it is designated as Sh in MAKBAT (MAK/BAT (2010)).

From reported LD50 values of 2100 mg/kg in males and 634 mg/kg in females and information on toxic signs such as anesthetization and general malaise both in males and in females in an acute oral toxicity test in rats (IUCLID (2000)), it was classified in Category 3 (narcotic effects).
In addition, the females showed unkempt coat, a decrease in body weights, and a death case at a dose corresponding to Category 2 in the guidance values, but the specific target organ cannot be determined. Therefore, it was classified in Category 2 (systemic toxicity).
