An application of 0.15 mL of a 1% aqueous solution of this substance to the rabbit eye caused slight hyperemia, after an application of 0.15 mL of a 2% aqueous solution, moderate to severe hyperemia, mild to moderate edema, cloudy cornea, and exudation were observed, and these changes became evident 5 minutes after the application, were most intense after 5 hours, and subsided after 96 hours (HSDB (2009)). In an acute oral toxicity test with rats (LD50 value: 570 mg/kg/day), restlessness and hyperventilation appeared immediately after administration, followed by a rapidly developing motor weakness. Tremors, clonic convulsions, dyspnea, and coma ensued until death (PATTY (5th, 2001)). From the LD50 value in the report, these were judged to be findings within the dose range corresponding to the guidance values for Category 2, and it was classified in Category 2 (nervous system) based on the toxic signs after administration. |
