Rationale for the classification
1 Acute toxicity (Oral) Not classified
-
-
- - It was classified as "Not classified" in the Classification JIS (corresponding to Category 5 in UN GHS classification) based on an LD50 value of 3,000 mg/kg for rats (Environmental Risk Assessment for Chemical Substances vol. 7 (Ministry of the Environment, 2009)).
1 Acute toxicity (Dermal) Classification not possible
-
-
- - No data available.
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Gases) Not applicable
-
-
- - Solid (GHS definition)
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Vapours) Classification not possible
-
-
- - No data available.
1 Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Dusts and mists) Classification not possible
-
-
- - No data available.
2 Skin corrosion/irritation Classification not possible
-
-
- - No data available.
3 Serious eye damage/eye irritation Classification not possible
-
-
- - No data available.
4 Respiratory sensitization Classification not possible
-
-
- - No data available.
4 Skin sensitization Classification not possible
-
-
- - No data available.
5 Germ cell mutagenicity Classification not possible
-
-
- - The classification is not possible due to no in vivo test data. Besides, as for in vitro tests, it was reported to be negative in an Ames test (EHC 202 (1998), HSDB (2010)).
6 Carcinogenicity Classification not possible
-
-
- - It was classified as "Classification not possible" because EPA classified it in D for carcinogenicity (IRIS (1997)).
7 Reproductive toxicity Classification not possible
-
-
- - No data available.
8 Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure Classification not possible
-
-
- - No data available.
9 Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure Category 1 (respiratory organs), Category 2 (liver, kidney)

P501
In a 90-day repeated oral administration test with mice (doses: 100, 200, 400 mg/kg/day), increased liver weights in both males and females in the groups at or above 100 mg/kg/day, increased incidences and aggravation of hypertrophy and necrosis of the centrilobular hepatocytes in the liver in females at or above 100 mg/kg/day and males at or above 200 mg/kg/day, and nephrosis and related renal lesions in females at or above 100 mg/kg/day were observed (Environmental Risk Assessment for Chemical Substances vol. 7 (Ministry of the Environment, 2009)). From the above, it was classified in Category 2 (liver, kidney ) because adverse effects were found in the liver and kidney at 100 mg/kg/day corresponding to the upper limit of the guidance value range. On the other hand, in a 4-month repeated inhalation exposure test with rats (vapour: 4 hours/day, 0.5-1.25 mg/m3), findings such as bronchitis, peribronchitis with alveolar epithelial hyperplasia and bronchial epithelial metaplasia, and detachment of bronchial and alveolar epithelium are reported as lung effects in histological examination (Environmental Risk Assessment for Chemical Substances vol. 7 (Ministry of the Environment, 2009)). From the results, the test concentrations (converted 6-hour/day equivalent value: 0.0004-0.001 mg/L) correspond to the guidance values for Category 1, therefore it was classified in Category 1 (respiratory system).
10 Aspiration hazard Classification not possible
-
-
- - No data available.

Rationale for the classification
11 Hazardous to the aquatic environment (Acute) Category 1

Warning
H400 P273
P391
P501
It was classified in Category 1 from 48-hour LC50 = 0.041 mg/L for crustacea (Daphnia magna) (EHC202, 1998).
11 Hazardous to the aquatic environment (Long-term) Category 1

Warning
H410 P273
P391
P501
If chronic toxicity data are used, then it is classified in Category 2 due to being not rapidly degradable (not readily degradable, BOD 0% (Biodegradation and Bioconcentration Results of Existing Chemical Substances under the Chemical Substances Control Law)), and 32-day NOEC = 0.509 mg/L for fish (Pimephales promelas) (EHC202, 1998).
If acute toxicity data are used for a trophic level for which chronic toxicity data are not obtained, then it is classified in Category 1 due to being not rapidly degradable (not readily degradable, BOD 0% (Biodegradation and Bioconcentration Results of Existing Chemical Substances under the Chemical Substances Control Law)), and 48-hour LC50 = 0.041 mg/L for crustacea (Daphnia magna) (EHC202, 1998).
By drawing a comparison between the above results, it was classified in Category 1.
12 Hazardous to the ozone layer Classification not possible
-
-
- - This substance is not listed in the Annexes to the Montreal Protocol.
