In an acute oral toxicity test with rats (LD50: 251-302 mg/kg bw), necropsy revealed grey foci, congestion, and focal hemorrhage in the lung, poisoning symptoms after the dose included increased respiratory rate and amplitude with general body tremors, occasional convulsions, and death, and as pathological changes, slight to severe congestion and petechial hemorrhage were observed in the lung (CICAD 66 (2005)). Lung effects were found from the above, but they were thought to be non-specific changes, and it was hard to specify the target organ. However, because death was also seen within the guidance value range for Category 1, it was classified in Category 1 (systemic toxicity). And it was classified in Category 3 (respiratory tract irritation) because it is described that it is irritating to the mucous membranes and upper respiratory tract and causes pain in the nose and throat at a concentration of 1 mg/m3 in humans (HSDB (2009)). |
