1 | Acute toxicity (Oral) | Category 4 |
Warning |
H302 |
P301+P312
P264 P270 P330 P501 |
There are reports on LD50 values of > 500 mg/kg (males), 632 mg/kg (females), 707 mg/kg (females), 1,011 mg/kg (females), < 2,000 mg/kg (males), 2,800 mg/kg (females), and 3,300 mg/kg (females) for rats (all EU-RAR (2008)). It was classified in Category 4 to which the most data correspond. |
1 | Acute toxicity (Dermal) | Not classified |
- |
- | - | It was classified as "Not classified" based on LD50 values of > 12.9 g/kg (EU-RAR (2008)), and > 2,000 mg/kg (NICNAS (2001), SIDS (2009)) for rats, and LD50 values of > 2,000 mg/kg (EU-RAR (2008), NICNAS (2001)) and > 5,000 mg/kg (EU-RAR (2008)) for rabbits. |

1 | Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Vapours) | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | Classification not possible due to lack of data. |
1 | Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Dusts and mists) | Not classified |
- |
- | - | It was classified as "Not classified" based on reports on LC50 values (4 hours) of 4.6 mg/L (SIDS (2009)), > 5.05 mg/L (males), about 5 mg/L (females), and > 7 mg/L (EU-RAR (2008)) for rats. Besides, based on the description of aerosol, a reference value of dust and mists in the unit of mg/L was applied. |
2 | Skin corrosion/irritation | Not classified |
- |
- | - | In SIDS (2009), there are four reports on test results on this substance including products. Among them, in a representative Draize test with rabbits, a primary irritation score was 0.5 out of 8, and there was no difference between normal skin and damaged skin. Furthermore, primary irritation scores after 24 and 72 hours were 0.5 out of 8 and 0.0 out of 8, respectively, and there was almost no irritation. Therefore, it was classified as "Not classified." |
3 | Serious eye damage/eye irritation | Not classified |
- |
- | - | In SIDS (2009), there are reports on five test results on this substance including products. Among them, in a representative Draize test with rabbits, average scores after 1, 24, 48, 72 hours were 3, 0, 0, 0 out of 110, respectively, and eye irritation was not observed. Therefore, it was classified as "Not classified." |
4 | Respiratory sensitization | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | Classification not possible due to lack of data. |
4 | Skin sensitization | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | Classification not possible due to lack of data. |
5 | Germ cell mutagenicity | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | It was classified as "Classification not possible" because it was not possible to classify a substance as "Not classified" according to the revised GHS classification guidance for the Japanese government. As for in vivo, it was negative in micronucleus tests with peripheral blood of mice and rats and a chromosomal aberration test with rat bone marrow cells (EU-RAR (2008), NTP DB (Access on August 2013)). And it was negative in a comet assay with rat liver (EU-RAR (2008)). As for in vitro, it was positive or negative in mouse lymphoma tests with cultured mammalian cells, and negative in a bacterial reverse mutation test (ATSDR (2012), EU-RAR (2008), NTP DB (Access on August 2013)). Among these, the positive result in the mouse lymphoma test was "small colony" and was thought to result from chromosomal aberrations. However, it was negative for chromosomal aberrations in vivo as mentioned above, therefore it was judged not to cause chromosomal aberrations. Besides, it is described in NICNAS (2001) that it was not genotoxic in vivo and in vitro. |
6 | Carcinogenicity | Classification not possible |

7 | Reproductive toxicity | Category 2 |
Warning |
H361 |
P308+P313
P201 P202 P280 P405 P501 |
Teratogenicity was not observed in a developmental toxicity test and a two-generation reproductive toxicity test with rats in the oral route (feeding). In the two-generation reproductive toxicity test with rats in the oral route (feeding), effects on estrus cycles and uterus weight and developmental failure of offspring were found (EU-RAR (2008), SIDS (2009)). Therefore, it was judged to be Category 2. |
8 | Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure | Category 2 (central nervous system), Category 3 (narcotic effects) |

P260 P264 P270 P405 P501 P304+P340 P403+P233 P261 P271 P312 |
After oral administration, rats showed symptoms thought to be via the central nervous system such as increased or decreased activity, ptosis, hunched posture, tremors, clonic/tonic convulsions, sporadic twisting, aggression, teeth chattering, salivation, red-brown staining around the mouth, diarrhea, piloerection, rough coat, alopecia, dehydration, hypothermia, emaciation, dyspnea within the guidance value range for Category 2 (464-2,000 mg/kg). Therefore, it was classified in Category 2 (central nervous system). Furthermore, because decreased activity, partially or completely closed eyes, body weight depression, alopecia, convulsions, dyspnea were observed after inhalation exposure (mist) in rats outside the guidance value range (5.05 mg/L) (SIDS (2009), EU-RAR (2008)), it was classified in Category 3 (narcotic effects). |
9 | Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure | Category 2 (liver, thyroid) |
Warning |
H373 |
P260
P314 P501 |
It is described that in a 13-week diet administration test with rats, increased liver weight and thyroid follicular cell hyperplasia were observed in males at the dose (corresponding to 52 mg/kg/day) within the guidance values for Category 2 (EU-RAR (2008), IUCLID (2000)). In a 28-day gavage administration test with rats, effects on the liver (weight increase, hepatocyte hypertrophy, decreased serum ALT) were found only at the highest dose (1,000 mg/kg/day) (EU-RAR (2008), IUCLID (2000)). On the other hand, the effects on the thyroid were findings only in males, but they were judged to be of pathological importance. From the above, it was classified in Category 2 (liver, thyroid). |

If chronic toxicity data are used, then it is classified as "Not classified" due to being not rapidly degradable (a 28-day degradation rate by BOD = 0% (Biodegradation and Bioconcentration Results of Existing Chemical Substances under the Chemical Substances Control Law, 1989)), and 72-hour NOEC (r) = 6 mg/L for algae (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata) (EU-RAR, 2008). If acute toxicity data are used for a trophic level for which chronic toxicity data are not obtained, then it is classified in Category 3 due to being not rapidly degradable (a 28-day degradation rate by BOD = 0% (Biodegradation and Bioconcentration Results of Existing Chemical Substances under the Chemical Substances Control Law, 2002)), and 96-hour LC50 = 51 ppm for fish (Pimephales promelas) (EU-RAR, 2008). From the above results, it was classified in Category 3. |
