P501 |
From 24-hour EC50 = 50 mg/L for crustacea (Daphnia magna) (SIDS, 2005), it was classified in Category 3. |
11 | Hazardous to the aquatic environment (Long-term) | Not classified |

Reliable chronic toxicity data were not obtained. Benzylidyne trichloride rapidly hydrolyzes in water into benzoic acid which is judged to be rapidly degradable (a degradation rate by BOD: 85% (the existing chemicals survey program, 1979)) and hydrochloric acid (SIDS, 2005). Though benzylidyne trichloride is classified in Category 3 in acute toxicity, the benzoic acid as a decomposition product has rapid degradability and a low bioaccumulation estimate (BCF for benzoic acid = 10 (SIDS, 2005)), therefore, it was classified as "Not classified." Besides, 48-hour EC50 of pH-adjusted benzylidyne trichloride was > 100 mg/L for crustacea (Daphnia magna) (SIDS, 2005). |
