(1) There were descriptions as follows: the toxic effects of dinitrophenol derivatives are attributed to an increase in the basal metabolic rate due to uncoupling of the oxidative phosphorylation, resulting in an increase in the body temperature, and effects on the cardiovascular system and central nervous system; typical symptoms after poisoning include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, elevated body temperature, strong thirst, sweating, weakness, facial reddening, restlessness, muscular cramps, dyspnea, heart rhythm disturbances (tachycardia) (GESTIS (Access on October 2019), HSDB (Access on October 2019)).

[Evidence Data]
(1) Since cataract induction was observed in patients treated orally with 2,4-dinitrophenol (CAS RN 51-28-5), the structural analog compound, for therapiutic use, the possibility of causing cataracts was suggested for this substance as well (IRIS (1988)).
(2) A slightly cloudy swelling (liver) was observed at 0.1% (27-100 mg/kg/day, within the range of Category 2) in a repeated dose toxicity test with rats by feeding for 6 months (IRIS (1988)).
