Two 18-month carcinogenicity tests with male and female mice conducted in 1967 are described in SIDS (2006). - - Classification not possible due to lack of data. Besides, reproductive toxicity was not observed in a one-generation test with rats. In a developmental toxicity test with rats, reduced body weights and an increase in unspecific skeletal malformations (mainly dysplastic forelimb bones) was observed in fetuses at the dose (750 mg/kg bw/day) where severe toxicity was found in maternal animals including death (5/26 animals), tremor, piloerection and a decrease in body weights. An increase in delayed ossification (mainly toes and cervical vertebral bodies) was observed in fetuses at the dose (200 mg/kg bw/day) where there was slight toxicity in maternal animals showing a transient decrease in food consumption and weight gain depression (SIDS (2006)). The effects found in the developmental toxicity test are thought to be secondary effects related to maternal toxicity, but they cannot be denied perfectly.
