Rationale for the classification Classification year (FY) GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government
11 Hazardous to the aquatic environment Short term (Acute) Category 1

Warning
H400 P273
P391
P501
It was classified in Category 1 from 48-hour EC50 = 0.66 mg/L for crustacea (Daphnia magna) (Environmental Risk Assessment for Chemical Substances (Ministry of the Environment, 2003), Initial Risk Assessment (NITE, CERI, NEDO, 2007)). The classification result was changed from the previous classification by using new information. FY2021 GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2019 revised edition (Ver. 2.0))
11 Hazardous to the aquatic environment Long term (Chronic) Category 1

Warning
H410 P273
P391
P501
If chronic toxicity data are used, then it is classified in Category 1 due to being rapidly degradable (a 28-day degradation rate by BOD: 70.7% (Biodegradation and Bioconcentration Results of Existing Chemical Substances under the Chemical Substances Control Law, METI, 1990)) and 21-day NOEC = 0.0069 mg/L for crustacea (Daphnia magna) (effect concentration calculated based on the mean value of analysis values in dispersed systems) (Results of Aquatic Toxicity Tests of Chemicals conducted by Ministry of the Environment in Japan (Ministry of the Environment, 2005)).
If acute toxicity data are used for a trophic level for which chronic toxicity data are not obtained (algae), then it is classified as "Not classified" due to being rapidly degradable and 96-hour EC50 > 0.78 mg/L for algae (Raphidocelis subcapitata) (Initial Risk Assessment (NITE, CERI, NEDO, 2007)).
From the above results, it was classified in Category 1. The classification result was revised from the previous classification by changing how to classify it in chronic toxicity and using new information.
