In a oral acute toxicity test with rats (OECD TG401 (GLP)), the following symptoms were observed during the 28-day observation period; impairment of movement, respiration and reflexes, partially closed eyelids, constricted pupils, flow of clear lacrimal fluid, prone or side position, distended abdomen, diarrheas, bad general condition, and impaired body weight development until the end of the experiment in some cases. Necropsy of the animals sacrificed on the 28th day revealed discolouration of the lung, spleen, adrenal glands and of the gastrointestinal tract, and in many cases the stomach, spleen and liver had become partially fused with one another. Almost all deaths occurred during the first day, and necropsy of the dead rats revealed discolouration of liver, pancreas, connective tissue and gastrointestinal tract, hemorrhaging of the gastrointestinal tract and partial detachment of its mucous membrane, and accumulations of a clear, reddish-yellow liquid in the abdominal cavity (BUA 63 (1991)). The LD50 value in this test was 1410 mg/kg (BUA 63 (1991)), within the guidance value range for Category 2 (2000 mg/kg). The affected organ could not be identified due to lack of report in any document.
