1 | Acute toxicity (Oral) | Not classified |
- |
- | - | Based on a LD50 value of 2.7 g/kg for rats (PATTY (5th, 2001)), the substance was classified into "Not classified" in JIS Classification (corresponding to Category 5 in GHS classification). | FY2009 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (March, 2009) |

H331 | P304+P340 P403+P233 P261 P271 P311 P321 P405 P501 |
Based on a LC50 value of 21,000 mg/m3/2h (2133 ppm/4h) for rats (PATTY (5th, 2001)), the substance was classified into Category 3. Since the report of the vapour was in the assessment document, the classification criteria for gas was adopted. | FY2009 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (March, 2009) |

Warning |
H315 | P302+P352 P332+P313 P362+P364 P264 P280 P321 |
Based on reports of irritating for the skin (PATTY (5th, 2001)) and irritant to skin (HSDB (2003)), and classification as Xi; R38 in EU classification (EU-Annex I (access on Aug. 2009)), the substance was classified into Category 2 | FY2009 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (March, 2009) |

5 | Germ cell mutagenicity | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | Classification not possible due to lack of data from in vivo mutagenicity tests. From in vitro mutagenicity tests, there are reports of a negative Ames test and a negative Chinese hamster ovary cells chromosomal aberration test (NTP DB (access on Aug. 2009)). | FY2009 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (March, 2009) |

8 | Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | It is noted that the substance shows biological activity (toxicity) through conversion by an oxidative metabolic process related to a metabolic enzyme in the liver and enhances the hepatotoxicity by induction of microsomal enzymes (PATTY (5th, 2001)). It is also reported that the metabolites can be found in the areas of hepatic centrilobular necrosis induced by the substance (HSDB (2003)). Rats orally administered at 3 g/kg showed widespread hepatic necrosis not only around centrilobular veins but also around all tributaries of the hepatic veins (HSDB (2003)). In addition, in an acute oral toxicity test with rats at levels of 2000 - 4000 mg/kg, clinical observations included lacrimation, chromodacryorrhea, stained perineal area, stained face, tremors, weakness, and lethargy (HSDB (2003)). Since these findings were observed at a dose level exceeding the guidance value range and effects at the approximate cut-off value are not clear due to lack of data, classification was not possible. | FY2009 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (March, 2009) |
9 | Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure | Category 2 (liver, nervous system) |
Warning |
H373 | P260 P314 P501 |
It is reported that the substance shows biological activity (toxicity) through conversion by oxidative metabolic process related to metabolic enzyme in the liver and enhances the hepatotoxicity by induction of microsomal enzymes (PATTY (5th, 2001)). It is also reported that the metabolites can be found in the areas of hepatic centrilobular necrosis induced by the substance (HSDB (2003)). In addition, there is a report that exposure of rats to 0.02 - 0.25 mg/L for 4.5-month caused disorders of liver function and inhibition of nervous system (HSDB (2003)). Although these effects correspond to Category 1 based on guidance value range, the substance was classified into Category 2 (liver, nervous system) because of information in List 2 and non-meeting Decision criteria 1b 3). | FY2009 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (March, 2009) |
