Based on reports that by 4-hour exposure at 8,000 ppm with rats, 4/6 animals were dead (PATTY (6th, 2012), SIDS (2009), ACGIH (7th, 2001)) and that an LC50 value (4 hours) was 4,000-8,000 ppm (SIDS (2009)), it was classified in Category 4. This substance was irritating to the respiratory tract (SIDS (2009), ACGIH (7th, 2001), PATTY (6th, 2012), HSDB (Access on September 2014)). In humans, there was a report of weakness, drowsiness and unconsciousness at high concentrations (HSDB (Access on September 2014)). As for experimental animals, there is a description of narcotic effects (OEL Documentations (Japan Society For Occupational Health (JSOH), 1970), ACGIH (7th, 2001), PATTY (6th, 2012)), and there was a report of being inactive and central nervous system depression in an inhalation exposure to rats at 16.7 mg/L (SIDS (2009)).
From the above, this substance was considered to have respiratory tract irritation and narcotic effects, therefore, it was classified in Category 3 (respiratory tract irritation, narcotic effects).
Besides, in the previous classification, Category 1 (central nervous system) and Category 2 (liver) were adopted, but the effects on the central nervous system were determined as narcotic effects. In addition, there was no report about the liver in List 1 and List 2, and HSFS was not adopted for classification because it was included in List 3.
