Danger |
H330 | P304+P340 P403+P233 P260 P271 P284 P310 P320 P405 P501 |
It was reported that 2-hour exposure to rats at the concentration of 200 - 300 mg/m3 caused 50% mortality (PATTY, 5th (2001)), namely the LC50 value was 200 - 300 mg/m3/2h (52.3 - 78.6 ppm/4hrs), therefore the substance was classified as Category 1. The LC50 value (0.2 - 0.3 mg/L) was lower than 90% of the saturated vapor pressure concentration (0.711 mg/L), the criterion values for gas were adopted. | FY2010 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (July, 2010) |

Warning |
H319 | P305+P351+P338 P337+P313 P264 P280 |
Immediate irritation after exposure to the eye was reported (HSDB (2003)). And it was reported that instillation of the substance to the eyes of rabbits caused lacrimation, hyperemia of the conjunctiva, spasm and swelling of the eyelids (HSDB (2003)). Based on these documents, the substance was classified as Category 2. | FY2010 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (July, 2010) |

8 | Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure | Category 1 (central nervous system) |
Danger |
H370 | P308+P311 P260 P264 P270 P321 P405 P501 |
In the acute inhalation study in mice (as vapors, converted LC50 value as that of 4h-exposure: 0.141 - 0.212 mg/L), signs of restlessness appeared during exposure, and the increased respiratory rate shifted to decreased one with lethargy after exposure. The mice revealed cyanosis and incoordination of movements, and after that revealed tremors and convulsions, leading to death in some animals (PATTY, 5th (2001)). While, in the acute oral toxicity study in rats, in survived rats, brain lesions which mainly localized in the corps striatum involving both the grey and white matter were observed. In some rats, necrosis occurred in the striated neurons with the proliferation of the neuroglia cells (HSDB (2003)). Based on the information, since the effects on the central nervous system were shown and the exposure concentration corresponded to Category 1of the guidance values, the substance was classified as Category 1 (central nervous system). In addition, there was the following description: the toxic effects of cyanide ion caused suppression of cellular respiration by inactivation of cytochrome oxidase and consequently affected many organs that require and utilize a lot of oxygen by histotoxic anoxia (CICADs (J) 61 (2004)). | FY2010 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (July, 2010) |
9 | Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | Insufficient data were available. It was reported that multiple oral administration of the substance (1 - 2 mg/kg) to rats resulted in several neuronal changes such as the development of cytoplasmic changes in the neuron (HSDB (2003)), however, the details of the study were unknown. | FY2010 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (July, 2010) |
