1 | Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Dusts and mists) | Not classified |
- |
- | - | Based on an LC50 value (4 hours) of 118 mg/L for rats (PATTY (6th, 2012)), this substance was classified as "Not classified." Besides, since the LC50 value was higher than the saturated vapour pressure concentration (61.3 mg/L), the reference value for a mist was applied. | FY2014 | GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.0)) |

Warning |
H315 | P302+P352 P332+P313 P362+P364 P264 P280 P321 |
There is a report that in a test with volunteers, in which this substance was applied on the forearm for 1 hour and on the thigh for 5 hours, hyperemia, inflammation and pigmentation occurred with a burning and itching sensation at the site of application (PATTY (6th, 2012)). It is also described that after the 5-hour application, blister formation was observed but this disappeared (HSDB (Access on July 2014)). Based on the above, this substance was classified in Category 2. | FY2014 | GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.0)) |
3 | Serious eye damage/eye irritation | Category 2 |
Warning |
H319 | P305+P351+P338 P337+P313 P264 P280 |
Although no report on the eye irritation was available, it was classified in Category 2 for the skin irritation. Besides, this substance is a hydrocarbon and it was described that mild to moderate eye irritation and reversible ocular injury may occur (HSDB (Access on July 2014)), therefore, this substance was classified in Category 2. | FY2014 | GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.0)) |

This substance is irritating to the nose and throat (ACGIH (7th, 2001), PATTY (6th, 2012), HSDB (Access on June 2014)). In addition, there are descriptions of narcotic effects (ACGIH (2001), PATTY (6th, 2012)) and convulsions (HSDB (Access on June 2014)) when exposed to high concentrations. There are reports of cardiac arrest, respiratory paralysis, convulsions, asphyxiation and death in rats exposed to 0.2 mL (no detailed description) of this substance by inhalation, lateral position at 31 mg/L and loss of reflex at 44 mg/L in inhalation exposure of mice, narcotic effects at 6,600–13,700 ppm in inhalation exposure of mice, and respiratory arrest at 16,000 ppm and 32,000 ppm in inhalation exposure of mice (OEL Documentations (Japan Society For Occupational Health (JSOH), 1989), PATTY (6th, 2012), ACGIH (7th, 2001), HSDB (Access on June 2014)). From the above, it is considered that this substance causes respiratory tract irritation and narcotic effects, and it was classified in Category 3 (respiratory tract irritation, narcotic effects). |
