In the acute oral toxicity study in rats, decrease in locomotor activity and salivation were observed in all treatment groups (180 - 600 mg/kg), and diarrhea, lachrymation, prone position, lateral position, and hypothermia were additionally noted in decedents. Diarrhea, lachrymation and prone position were also observed in survivors, but disappeared on day 2 of post-administration ("Toxicity Testing Reports of Environmental Chemicals" (Chemicals Investigation Promoting Council) (Access on Aug. 2010)). In necropsy findings of the study, diffuse red area/spots in the lungs was noted in decedents of both sexes at 400 mg/kg or higher, indicating the target organ of the lungs ("Toxicity Testing Reports of Environmental Chemicals" (Chemicals Investigation Promoting Council)) (Access on Aug. 2010)). In the 28-day repeated dose oral toxicity study in rats, salivation was observed in all treatment groups, and signs such as decrease in spontaneous activity, emaciation, piloerection, stained fur and abnormal respiratory sound were observed in decedents caused at high dose group at 200 mg/kg/day. In blood biochemistry, high values of ALT activity and potassium concentration and low value of sodium concentration were noted in males of 200 mg/kg/day group. Histopathologically, degeneration and/or necrosis of myocardial cells and reflective cell reactions in the heart were observed in both sexes of 200 mg/kg/day group ("Toxicity Testing Reports of Environmental Chemicals" (Chemicals Investigation Promoting Council) (Access on Aug. 2010)). Based on the results that deaths occurred and histopathological changes in the heart caused at 200 mg/kg/day (converted dose level as that of 90-day study: 62.2 mg/kg/day), equivalent to Category 2, the substance was classified as Category 2 (heart).
