The substance was tested in an oral administration test using the Fertility Assessment by Continuous Breeding (FACB) protocol in mice, and only four of 19 low-dose pairs delivered a litter, and no intermediate- or high-dose pairs delivered a litter. In the seven litters delivered at the low-dose, the number of live pups/litter was reduced from control values by 90%; there were insufficient live pups to calculate pup weight adjusted for body weight. The control and high-dose mice were cross-mated, the groups that contained either treated males, or treated females, gave birth to no live young, while 61% of cohabited control pairs bore live young (NTP RACB84048 (1995)). In addition, using rats, when mating males received 2 g/kg with untreated females at 3, 6, and 10 weeks after exposure, a significant reduction in pregnancies and live pups and a significant increase in preimplantation loss (HSDB (2003)) was noted.
