On the basis that occlusive applications of 0.5 mL for 4 hours to rabbit skins produced mild to moderate erythema and edema in 4 out of 6 animals, but no necrosis or ulceration (PATTY (5th, 2001)), it was classified in Category 2.
Besides, another test of an occlusive application to rabbits for 24 hours reports slightly irritant (ECETOC TR 95 (2005)), and another reports that severe irritation with persistent fissuring, desquamation, ulceration, and necrosis appeared under more rigorous conditions (PATTY (5th, 2001)).

Because a reversing time is over 7-day in a test which reported that instillation of 0.005 to 0.1 mL into rabbit eyes caused severe conjunctivitis and a mild diffuse corneal injury which required 3 to 14 days for complete recovery (PATTY (5th, 2001)), it was classified in Category 2A.
Besides, another test using rabbits reported that a moderate to severe irritation, a moderate corneal injury, and slight iritis observed reversed within a week (HSDB (2002)).

On the basis that anesthetization without mortality in an 8-hour inhalation exposure to rats, CNS depression by oral administration of high dose to rats, and comatose within 15 to 30 minutes of dermal application to rabbits were observed (all PATTY (5th, 2001)), it was classified in Category 3 (narcotic effects). - - In an inhalation test exposed to two strains of rats (SD and Fisher 344) for 6 hours a day for 14 weeks, the female Fischer 344 rats showed decreased weight gains in a high concentration group (300 ppm), but both strains showed no difference from a control group in weights, food and water consumption, no abnormalities in necropsy, and no exposure-related changes in a pathological test.
