Both of 2 LD50 values for rats (195 mg/kg, 200 mg/kg) (EHC 211 (1999)) correspond to Category 3. Besides, it is classified in T; R25 in EU classification (EC-JRC (ESIS) (Access on July. 2011)). |

2 | Skin corrosion/irritation | Not classified |
- |
- | - | Because a skin irritation test using rabbits (US Federal Register 1973 Skin Test) resulted in "mild irritant" from a primary irritation index of 1.3 (EHC 211 (1999)), it was classified as "Not classified" in JIS classification (Category 3 in UN GHS classification). | FY2011 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (July, 2010) |

H319 | P305+P351+P338 P337+P313 P264 P280 |
There are no data on this substance. But there is the information that a soluble platinum compound is corrosive to eyes (Netherlands evaluation document (2008), corresponding to List 2). Confirmation of corrosive for "Trans-[PtCl2(NH3)2]" and "(NH4)2[PtCl4]" was described. (EHC 211 (1999)). It is classified in Category 2 from Xi; R41 in EU classification. |

4 | Respiratory sensitization | Category 1A |
Danger |
H334 | P304+P340 P342+P311 P261 P284 P501 |
Platinum itself or its compound is designated as a sensitizing substance (respiratory tract; Group 1) by Japan Society for Occupational Health (Journal of Occupational Health, Vol.52 (2010)). Three out of 6 refinery workers sensitized to this substance elicited positive prick test reactions. (ECETOC TR77 (1999)) Fifteen out of 107 workers with a history of platinum-related health problems exhibited positive prick tests to this substance. (ECETOC TR77 (1999)) In addition, it was concluded that high frequent reports indicating respiratory hypersensitivity in humans such as asthma reactions to sensitized humans in an inhalation test to a mixture containing this substance (EHC 211 (1999)) are evidence that this substance is a respiratory sensitizer (ECETOC TR77 (1999)), therefore, it was classified in Category 1A. Besides, it is classified in R42/43 in EU classification (EC-JRC (ESIS) (Access on July 2011)). |

H317 | P302+P352 P333+P313 P362+P364 P261 P272 P280 P321 P501 |
Platinum itself or its compound is designated as a sensitizing substance (skin; Group 1) by Japan Society for Occupational Health (Journal of Occupational Health, Vol.52 (2010)). Because it was concluded that it is a sensitizer from the limited data in animals in which popliteal lymph node test in mice using this substance showed enhanced activity by a challenge and resulted in a weak positive (ECETOC TR77 (1999)). it was classified in Category 1A. Besides, this substance is classified in R42/43 in EU classification (EC-JRC (ESIS) (Access on July 2011)). |
