2 | Skin corrosion/irritation | Not classified |
- |
- | - | In the Draize test using rabbits, occlusive application of 0.1 ml of test substance caused very slight to well defined erythema after 24 hours, and symptoms were all reversible within 72 hours. In the intact skin, edema was not observed, and the primary irritation index was 1.8 (US EPA/HPV Challenge program (2001)). Based on the information, the substance was classified as "Not classified" in the JIS classification (Category 3 in the UN-GHS classification). | FY2010 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (July, 2010) |
3 | Serious eye damage/eye irritation | Category 2B |
Warning |
H320 | P305+P351+P338 P337+P313 P264 |
The substance was classified as Category 2B based on the documented case of "mild irritant" resulted from the rabbit Draize test (US EPA/HPV Challenge program (2001)) in which instillation of 0.5 ml of the substance caused corneal damage in 3 of 6 rabbits. | FY2010 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (July, 2010) |

As the result of acute dermal toxicity study in rabbits, tremors and necropsy findings consisting of congested lungs and pale kidneys were noted in the dead animals. The LD50 value of the study was calculated to be 866.3 mg/kg (US EPA/HPV Challenge program (2001)), which was equivalent to Category 1. While in the acute oral toxicity study in rats, the majority of animals exhibited labored breathing and sluggishness, and necropsy findings containing hemorrhage of the lungs and gastrointestinal tract in dead animals, and congestion of adrenals and kidneys in survivors were observed. The LD50 value was calculated to be 999.6 mg/kg (US EPA/HPV Challenge program (2001)), which was equivalent to Category 2. Although it was difficult to specify the specific target organ(s) based on these results, the substance was classified as Category 1 (systemic toxicity) since the LD50 value (dermal, rabbits) was equivalent to Category 1. | FY2010 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (July, 2010) |
9 | Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | The classification was not possible due to lack of data. As relevant information, in the 42-day feeding study in rats, no notable effects were reported except for the sign of slight ataxia observed in the high dose groups (296 - 306 mg/kg/day, converted dose level as that of 90-day study: 138 - 143 mg/kg/day) (US EPA/HPV Challenge program (2001)). However, the details of the results such as the pathological findings were unknown. | FY2010 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (July, 2010) |
