7 | Reproductive toxicity | Category 2 |
Warning |
H361 | P308+P313 P201 P202 P280 P405 P501 |
IARC 20 (1979) documented the following: in female mice fed with a diet containing this substance before and after the mating period, litter sizes decreased; in female rats fed with a diet containing this substance before and after the mating period, survival rates of the offspring decreased and cataracts were noted at high frequencies in the offspring; and in female rats fed with a diet containing this substance on days 6-15 of gestation, decreased pregnancy rates, fetal survival rates, fetal body weights, and abnormalities of the organs of the fetuses were noted at doses that did not induce toxic symptoms in parental animals. In these reports, neither doses that induced effects in parental animals nor the kinds of effects noted in parental animals can be identified. Thus, we classified the substance into Category 2. | FY2007 | GHS Classification Manual (10 Feb, 2006)/Technical Guidance Document on the GHS Classification (6 Dec, 2005) |
8 | Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure | Category 1 (liver, eye, nervous system) |
Danger |
H370 | P308+P311 P260 P264 P270 P321 P405 P501 |
The following animal test results have been documented: in mice that received oral administration, vacuolation of hepatocytes were noted; in rats that received oral administration, hepatic glycogen depletion and periportal liposis were detected; cataracts were produced in newborn rats that received oral administration; and in rats that received oral administration, lethargy, weakness, hyper excitability, and tremors were observed (ATSDR, 1995). Evaluating these reports, we determined that the liver, eyes, and nervous system are the target organs for this substance, and all effects on test animals were seen at doses that fall under the range of Category 1 guidance values. Thus, the substance was classified into Category 1 (liver, eyes, and nervous system). |
FY2007 | GHS Classification Manual (10 Feb, 2006)/Technical Guidance Document on the GHS Classification (6 Dec, 2005) |
9 | Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure | Category 1 (liver, nervous system) |
Danger |
H372 | P260 P264 P270 P314 P501 |
The following animal test results have been documented: in a two-year mixed diet administration test using rats, fatty metamorphosis in the liver, cytomegaly, angiectasis, and hepatocellular necrosis were noted (NTP TR 313, 1990). Rats that were treated with this substance exhibited hypoactivity, irritability, and tremors (ATSDR, 1995). Evaluating these reports, we determined that the liver and nervous system are the target organs for this substance, and all effects on test animals were seen at doses that fall under the range of Category 1 guidance values. Thus, the substance was classified into Category 1 (liver and nervous system). |
