1 | Acute toxicity (Oral) | Category 4 |
Warning |
H302 | P301+P312 P264 P270 P330 P501 |
Based on its two reported rat LD50 values (2360 mg/kg and 567 mg/kg) and some information (its rat LD50 <= 1000 mg/kg) (PATTY (5th, 2001)), the substance was classified into Category 4. As relevant information, the substance is rated R22 in the EU classification. | FY2008 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (Sep, 2008) |

2 | Skin corrosion/irritation | Not classified |
- |
- | - | Since in a skin irritation test using rabbits (according to OECD TG 404), the substance was not irritating (IUCLID (2000)). | FY2008 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (Sep, 2008) |
3 | Serious eye damage/eye irritation | Category 2A |
Warning |
H319 | P305+P351+P338 P337+P313 P264 P280 |
In an eye irritation test using rabbits (in compliant with OECD TG 405), the mean scores across 24, 48, and 72 h post application were 2 or higher in all 3 treated rabbits for conjunctival redness and 2 or higher in 2 out of 3 rabbits for chemosis. The maximum mean total score was 31.3 (maximum value: 110) (ECETOC TR 48 (1998); IUCLID (2000)). It is described that as a result, the substance was determined to be irritating, and some findings were present till the end of the three-week observation period (IUCLID (2000)). Based on above, the substance was classified into Category 2A. | FY2008 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (Sep, 2008) |

5 | Germ cell mutagenicity | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | Since there is no in vivo data available, classification is not possible. As relevant information, as for in vitro tests, negative results in an Ames test, and positive results in a chromosomal aberration test using CHO cells are reported (IUCLID (2000)). | FY2008 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (Sep, 2008) |

8 | Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure | Category 2 (nervous system) |
Warning |
H371 | P308+P311 P260 P264 P270 P405 P501 |
It is documented that its rat LD50 value for oral administration was 567 mg/kg, and as clinical signs after administration, such as sedation, catalepsy, lateral and dorsal position, loss of righting reflex, coordination disturbances, tremors, and clonic convulsions were reported (IUCLID (2000)). However, at a dose of 464 mg/kg, no toxicological signs were reported (IUCLID (2000)). The above specific signs suggested effects on the nervous system, and although the doses were near the lethal dosage, signs showing effects on the nervous system were found, and the doses were below the guidance values. Therefore, the substance was classified into Category 2 (nervous system). | FY2008 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (Sep, 2008) |
9 | Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure | Classification not possible |

11 | Hazardous to the aquatic environment Short term (Acute) | Category 3 |
- |
H402 | P273 P501 |
Since its 96h-LC50 = 12.5 mg/L for fish (rainbow trout) (ECOTOX, 2008), the substance was classified into Category 3. | FY2008 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (Sep, 2008) |
11 | Hazardous to the aquatic environment Long term (Chronic) | Category 3 |
- |
H412 | P273 P501 |
Since its preexisting classification for acute toxicity is Category 3, and it is not rapidly degradable (SRC, BioWin V4.10), the substance was classified into Category 3. | FY2008 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (Sep, 2008) |
