Intraperitoneal injections to pregnant rats retarded postnatal development, resulted in reduced body, brain, kidney, liver, and spleen weights; in addition, microencephaly, reduced cerebral hemispheres, and defects in cortical mantle were noted (HSDB, 2003). This report indicates serious effects such as microencephaly. However, since this is an intraperitoneal injection test and because effects of the injection on parental animals are not explained, the substance was classified into Category 2.
