Although there are no data on the reproductive effects of this substance, reproductive and developmental toxicities were observed in certain alkylmercury compounds. Methylmercury, organic mercury, is generally well known as a teratogenic substance for animals and humans (ACGIH (7th, 2001)), therefore, it was classified in Category 1. Besides, since RTECS used as the basis in the previous classification is included in List 3, it was deleted from the information sources. In addition, the report (Gangolli (2nd, 1999)) providing reference data in the previous classification that in the study where male and female rats were exposed by inhalation continuously for 115 days, decreased sperm counts and sperm motility in the males, and prolonged sexual cycles and decreased fertility index in the females, and shortened lifespan, developmental inhibition and changes in the genetic organs in the pups born were observed, respectively, was secondary information with unknown details about test conditions and results, etc. Therefore, it was not used for the classification. | FY2014 | GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.0)) |

9 | Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure | Category 1 (nervous system, kidney) |
Danger |
H372 | P260 P264 P270 P314 P501 |
There are no findings of repeated dose toxicity regarding diethylmercury in either humans or experimental animals. Classification not possible due to lack of data. However, as for alkylmercuries, mainly methylmercury, there are descriptions that they pass through the blood-brain barrier and the main target organs are the central and peripheral nervous system and kidneys (ACGIH (7th, 2001), ATSDR (1999, 2013)), and that among alkylmercuries, methylmercury is known to be the most hazardous due to its long residual time in the body from its long elimination half-life from the body (ACGIH (7th, 2001), ATSDR (1999)). Although this is not information on this substance, it was classified in Category 1 (nervous system, kidney) as alkylmercuries. Besides, this substance is classified as "R33" in the EU DSD classification and "H373 STOT RE 2" in the EU CLP classification. | FY2014 | GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.0)) |
