6 | Carcinogenicity | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | There is no carcinogenicity information on this substance. However, it is thought that silica fumes have an amorphous form, and that the carcinogenicity classification result for amorphous silica is applicable. This substance was classified as "Classification not possible" for this hazard class based on the IARC's Group 3 classification of carcinogenicity for amorphous silica (IARC 100C (2012)). |

Warning |
H335 | P304+P340 P403+P233 P261 P271 P312 P405 P501 |
From the report that this substance is irritating to the respiratory tract (ACGIH (7th, 2001), ECETOC JACC (2006)), it was classified in Category 3 (respiratory tract irritation). | FY2015 | GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.1)) |
9 | Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure | Category 1 (respiratory organs) |
Danger |
H372 | P260 P264 P270 P314 P501 |
As for humans, chronic or repeated inhalation exposure causes recurrent fever like metal fume fever accompanied by X-ray findings similar to silicosis. However, it is reported that that pulmonary changes resolve spontaneously (ACGIH (7th, 2001)). As for experimental animals, in a 12 to 18-month inhalation exposure test in rats, guinea pigs, and monkeys at 15 mg/m3 (0.015 mg/L), increased aggregates of mononuclear cells and reticular fibers in the lung were observed in all animal species. Furthermore, collagen fibers were found in monkeys (DFGOT vol. 2 (1991)). As above, effects on respiratory organs were observed in humans. Moreover, in experimental animals, especially in monkeys, collagen fibers were found within a range of Category 1. Therefore, the substance was classified in Category 1 (respiratory organs). |
