H302 | P301+P312 P264 P270 P330 P501 |
It was classified in Category 4 based on LD50 values of 1,670 mg/kg (males) and 1,610 mg/kg (females) for rats (USEPA/HPV (2001), corresponding to List 1). | FY2012 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (July, 2010) |

6 | Carcinogenicity | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | It is reported that the incidences of tumors in the treated groups were not significantly higher than that of the control group in a 24-month diet administration test with rats (doses: 0, 30, 100, 300, 1000 ppm) (USEPA/HPV (2001)), but it was a result of the test in only one animal species, and there are no other data. Therefore, it was classified as "Classification not possible." | FY2012 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (July, 2010) |
7 | Reproductive toxicity | Classification not possible |

8 | Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure | Category 3 (Narcotic effects) |
Warning |
H336 | P304+P340 P403+P233 P261 P271 P312 P405 P501 |
It was classified in Category 3 (narcotic effects) because toxic signs of sedation and ataxia were reported in an acute oral toxicity test with rats (LD50: 1,610-1,670 mg/kg) (USEPA/HPV (2001)). Besides, in an 11-day diet administration test with dogs, signs of gait abnormality, blepharoptosis, and decreased body temperature were observed at 454 mg/kg/day during the treatment period, and it was concluded this substance had some effects on the central nervous system (USEPA/HPV (2001)). | FY2012 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (July, 2010) |
9 | Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure | Category 2 (liver) |
Warning |
H373 | P260 P314 P501 |
In a 24-month diet administration test with rats (doses: 0, 30, 100, 300 and 1,000 ppm), microcytic anemia with the elevation of phospholipid and cholesterol levels occurred, presumably as secondary effects of liver disorders at or above 300 ppm (15 mg/kg/day) corresponding to the guidance value range for Category 2, and histopathological changes of swelling, focal necrosis, and vacuolization of liver cells were observed (USEPA/HPV (2001)). Therefore, it was classified in Category 2 (liver). Besides, also in an 11-day diet administration test with dogs, increases in GOT, GPT, and ALP, which indicate deterioration of liver function, were found in the high dose group (1,000 ppm = 50 mg/kg/day) (USEPA/HPV (2001)). | FY2012 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (July, 2010) |

11 | Hazardous to the aquatic environment Short term (Acute) | Category 1 |
Warning |
H400 | P273 P391 P501 |
It was classified in Category 1 from 48-hour EC50 = 0.11 mg/L for crustacea (Daphnia magna) (Results of Aquatic Toxicity Tests of Chemicals conducted by Ministry of the Environment in Japan (Ministry of the Environment, 2000)). | FY2012 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (July, 2010) |
11 | Hazardous to the aquatic environment Long term (Chronic) | Category 2 |
- |
H411 | P273 P391 P501 |
If chronic toxicity data are used, then it is classified in Category 2 due to being not rapidly degradable (a degradation rate by BOD: 0% (Biodegradation and Bioconcentration Results of Existing Chemical Substances under the Chemical Substances Control Law, 1982)), and 21-day NOEC = 0.32 mg/L for crustacea (Daphnia magna) (Results of Aquatic Toxicity Tests of Chemicals conducted by Ministry of the Environment in Japan (Ministry of the Environment, 2000)). If acute toxicity data are used for a trophic level for which chronic toxicity data are not obtained, then it is classified as "Not classified" due to 96-hour LC50 > 10 mg/L for fish (Oryzias latipes) (Results of Aquatic Toxicity Tests of Chemicals conducted by Ministry of the Environment in Japan (Ministry of the Environment, 2000)), although it is not rapidly degradable (a degradation rate by BOD: 0% (Biodegradation and Bioconcentration Results of Existing Chemical Substances under the Chemical Substances Control Law, 1982)). By drawing a comparison between the above results, it was classified in Category 2. |
