1 | Acute toxicity (Oral) | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | Classification not possible due to lack of data. As an LD50 value for rats, >1,000 mg/kg was reported (SIAP (2013), PATTY (6th, 2012)), and this corresponds to Category 4 or "Not classified." However, since classification cannot be determined based on this value alone, it was classified as "Classification not possible." | FY2017 | GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.1)) |

1 | Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Vapours) | Category 4 |
Warning |
H332 | P304+P340 P261 P271 P312 |
Based on a report of an LC50 value of 40,000 mg/m3 (5,640 ppm) (converted 4-hour equivalent value: 28.3 mg/L (3,978 ppm)) for rats in a 2-hour inhalation exposure test (HSDB (Access on May 2017)), it was classified in Category 4. Besides, a reference value in the unit of ppm was applied as vapour with little mist because the exposure concentration was lower than 90% of the saturated vapour pressure concentration (46,535 ppm). The category was changed from the previous classification. | FY2017 | GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.1)) |

2 | Skin corrosion/irritation | Category 2 |
Warning |
H315 | P302+P352 P332+P313 P362+P364 P264 P280 P321 |
Based on the description that it showed moderate to severe irritation in skin irritation tests with rabbits (SIAP (2013)) and the description that it showed mild irritation (PATTY (6th, 2012)), it was classified in Category 2. Based on the information obtained in this investigation, the category was revised. | FY2017 | GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.1)) |
3 | Serious eye damage/eye irritation | Category 2 |
Warning |
H319 | P305+P351+P338 P337+P313 P264 P280 |
Based on the description that it showed moderate irritation in eye irritation tests with rabbits (SIAP (2013)), it was classified in Category 2. Based on the information obtained in this investigation, the category was revised. |

5 | Germ cell mutagenicity | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | Classification not possible due to lack of data. There is no in vivo data, and as for in vitro, it was positive in a bacterial reverse mutation test and a mammalian cell chromosome aberration test (SIAP (2013)). | FY2017 | GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.1)) |
6 | Carcinogenicity | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | Classification not possible due to lack of data. Besides, there was a report that in a 2-year inhalation study with male rats which were exposed at up to 150 ppm, no oncological changes related to exposure were observed in the gross pathological examination (PATTY (6th, 2012)). | FY2017 | GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.1)) |
7 | Reproductive toxicity | Category 2 |
Warning |
H361 | P308+P313 P201 P202 P280 P405 P501 |
There is a report that in a reproductive and developmental toxicity screening test with rats dosed by gavage, at 500 mg/kg/day where depressed body weight gain and lower food conversion efficiency were seen in maternal animals, increased pre-coital intervals and a reduction in the litter size were observed as reproductive effects (SIAP (2013)), therefore, it was classified in Category 2. Besides, based on the new information source after the previous classification, the classification became possible this time. | FY2017 | GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.1)) |
8 | Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure | Category 3 (Narcotic effects) |
Warning |
H336 | P304+P340 P403+P233 P261 P271 P312 P405 P501 |
There is no information on a single exposure to this substance in humans. As for experimental animals, there is a report that in a 4-hour single inhalation exposure test with rats, impaired spontaneous motor activity, bradypnea, abnormal gait, and tremors were seen at 21.4 to 22.3 mg/L, which was greater than the values corresponding to Category 2, and most of the animals fell into a deep coma within 3 hours, but no mortalities occurred, and there were no findings that seemed to be toxic effects on autopsy (SIAP (2013)). In addition, there is a description that the vapor of this substance can cause anesthesia (PATTY (6th, 2012)). Therefore, it was classified in Category 3 (narcotic effects). Besides, there is a report that disorders in the central nervous system occurred in experimental animals (no description of the species) by the inhalation of 17-20 mg/L (2,400-2,800 ppm) (PATTY (6th, 2012)) though it was not adopted as evidence of the classification for the central nervous system since the exposure time was not described, and the category could not be specified. | FY2017 | GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.1)) |
9 | Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | Classification not possible due to lack of data. There is a report that in a 13-week inhalation toxicity test (6 hours/day, 5 days/week) with rats, an increase of liver weight was observed in females at 75 ppm (converted guidance value: 0.38 mg/L) or above which was within the guidance value of Category 2 (PATTY (6th, 2012)). Since the observed effect was only weight increase, it was not adopted as evidence of the classification. |

10 | Aspiration hazard | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | Classification not possible due to lack of data. Besides, the kinematic viscosity is calculated to be 0.392 mm2/sec (25/20 deg C) from the numerical data (viscosity: 0.980 mPa*s (25 deg C), density: 2.4969 g/cm3 (20 deg C)) listed in HSDB (Access on May 2017). | FY2017 | GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.1)) |
