Based on a report of an LC50 value (1 hour) of 3,846 mg/m3 (converted 4-hour equivalent value: 0.9615 mg/L) for rats (SIDS (2011)), it was classified in Category 3. Besides, since the LC50 value was higher than 90% of the saturated vapour concentration (0.1582 mg/L), the reference value for the dust was applied. There is a report that after application of an 85% solution of this substance to rabbits, corrosivity was observed within 4 hours (SIDS (2011)). On the other hand, there is a report that after semi-occlusive application of a 75% solution of this substance for 4 hours, no corrosivity was observed (SIDS (2011)). In addition, there is a description that although the details were unknown, a 75% solution caused severe chemical burns to the skin (OEL Documentations (Japan Society For Occupational Health (JSOH), 1990)). This substance has strong acidity, and it was classified as irritating I by EPA Pesticide, as "C; R34" in the EU DSD classification, and as "Skin Corr. 1B H314" in the EU CLP classification. From the above results, it was classified in Category 1.

This substance was irritating to the respiratory tract in humans and experimental animals (OEL Documentations (Japan Society For Occupational Health (JSOH), 1990), SIDS (2011), ACGIH (7th, 2001), EPA Pesticide (1993)). There were multiple cases in humans, and by inhalation, severe exposure may cause hoarseness, dyspnea and stridor (due to laryngeal edema). In the most severe cases, it may cause non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema. By oral ingestion, there were reports of nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, hemorrhagic diarrhea, irritation or burns of the esophagus and stomach (HSDB (Access on September 2014), UKPID MONOGRAPH (1998)).
From the above, it was classified in Category 1(respiratory organs).
