This substance was corrosive and induced lacrimation, and in humans, it was corrosive and strongly irritating to the respiratory tract. It caused a burning sensation, abdominal pain, diarrhea and shock or collapse from oral ingestion, and cough, labored breathing, breathlessness, sore throat, burning sensation and cyanosis by inhalation. On inhalation of vapors or aerosols, pulmonary edema may be caused. The cardiovascular system may be affected. Other than these, dyspnea, effects on the gastrointestinal tract, cardiorespiratory arrest and promotion of ventricular arrhythmia were reported (Environmental Risk Assessment for Chemical Substances Vol.8, Tentative Hazard Assessment Sheet (Ministry of the Environment, 2010), ACGIH (7th, 2001)).
As for experimental animals, strong irritation to the respiratory tract was observed. Significant histopathological findings in mice were damage to the respiratory tract and lungs. In addition, shallow breathing, labored breathing, lethargy, salivation and congestion of the lung and nasal tissues were reported by inhalation exposure in rats (ACGIH (7th, 2001)). These findings were within the guidance value range corresponding to Category 1.
From the above, it was classified in Category 1 (respiratory organs, cardiovascular system).

There were no hazardous findings in humans by repeated exposures. According to descriptions that in tests in which rats, mice, and hamsters were exposed to the vapor of this substance by inhalation for 4 weeks, irritation symptoms to the eye and respiratory organs were observed in all animal species at or above 0.5 ppm (2.3 mg/m3), and histopathological changes in the nasal cavity (inflammation, hypertrophy, hyperplasia and squamous metaplasia in the respiratory epithelium) were observed in rats and mice (hamsters were not examined histopathologically) (ACGIH (7th, 2001), Environmental Risk Assessment for Chemical Substances Vol.8, Tentative Hazard Assessment Sheet (Ministry of the Environment, 2010)), it was classified in Category 1 (respiratory organs) since the effects on the respiratory organs were observed at or above the concentration corresponding to Category 1 (converted guidance value: 0.00071 mg/L/6 hours).
