On the basis that a test (OECD TG 404) applied 500 mg to rabbit skin for 4 hours observed severe necrosis was discontinued due to severe damages after 24 hours and this substance was assessed as caustic as a result (BUA Report 255 (2006)), it was classified in Category 1. Furthermore, another test applied 500 mg to only a rabbit (OECD TG 404) was discontinued due to severe necrosis after 72 hours (BUA Report 255 (2006)), and it was also assessed as caustic. |

3 | Serious eye damage/eye irritation | Category 1 |
Danger |
H318 | P305+P351+P338 P280 P310 |
Due to severe damages, a test (OECD TG 405) applied 100 mg used only 1 rabbit was discontinued after 72 hours. On the basis that an irritation index was 38 against maximum 110, a detachment of the mucous membrane and corrosion were observed in the conjunctival sac, and it was assessed as caustic as a result (BUA Report 255 (2006)), it was classified in Category 1. |

On the basis that a guinea pig maximization test (OECD TG 406), in which erythema and edema in all animals in a challenge were observed (a positive rate 100% (20/20)), reported highly sensitizing (BUA Report 255 (2006)), it was classified in Category 1. Furthermore, another guinea pig maximization test (Directive 84/449/EEC, B.6, GLP) reported a sensitizing result (IUCLID (2000)). |

5 | Germ cell mutagenicity | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | The classification is not possible due to no in vivo test data. Besides, an Ames test (Directive 84/449/EEC, B.10, GLP) reported a negative result as an in vitro test (IUCLID (2000)). |

8 | Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure | Category 2 (cardiovascular system, nervous system) |
Warning |
H371 | P308+P311 P260 P264 P270 P405 P501 |
From the List 2 information that the reduction of blood pressure due to vasodilation as a result of inhibition of vasomotor nerves was considered to be caused by this substance (BUA Report 255 (2006), it was classified in Category 2 (cardiovascular system). In addition, because poisoning signs such as nervousness, tremor, and staggering followed by sedation, ataxia, dyspnea, hypothermia, a prone position, and jerking after 30 minutes and an LD50 value of 1350 mg/kg were observed in an acute oral administration test in rats (OECD TG401; GLP) (BUA Report 255 (2006)), and test doses (1000, 1250, 1580 mg/kg) correspond to Category 2 in Guidance values, it was classified in Category 2 (nervous system). Besides, it corresponds to "Not classified" in dermal administration because a dermal administration test in rats given 2000 mg/kg reported only an unkempt coat in 1 animal but no other abnormal findings including in necropsy finding (BUA Report 255 (2006)). |

9 | Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | Necrosis in kidney and liver and adverse effects on the central nervous system were reported in a repeated dose test in which rats were given twice a day for 30 days (50, 100, 300 mg/kg bw), but the classification is not possible due to lack of data from an unknown administration route. | FY2011 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (July, 2010) |

11 | Hazardous to the aquatic environment Short term (Acute) | Not classified |
- |
- | - | From EC50s above 100 mg/L in acute toxicity tests for algae and crustacea (IUCLID, 2000; BUA, 2006), it was classified as "Not classified." | FY2011 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (July, 2010) |
11 | Hazardous to the aquatic environment Long term (Chronic) | Not classified |
- |
- | - | If chronic toxicity data are used, then it is classified as "Not classified" due to lack of rapid degradability (a degradation rate by BOD: 4, 5, 5% (the existing chemicals survey program, 2004)), and 72-hour NOEC = 100 mg/L for algae (Scenedesmus subspicatus) (IUCLID, 2000). If acute toxicity data are used for a trophic level for which chronic toxicity data are lacking, then it is classified as "Not classified" due to corresponding to "Not classified" in acute toxicity for crustacea (IUCLID, 2000), and not water-insoluble (water solubility = 524500 mg/L, PHYSPROP Database 2009). From the above, it was classified as "Not classified." |
