It is documented that in a chromosomal aberration test using mouse bone marrow cells after intraperitoneal administration, the substance was negative, and in a micronucleus test using mouse bone marrow cells after intraperitoneal administration, the substance could not be determined to be negative or positive (both are in vivo mutagenicity tests using somatic cells) (NTP DB (accessed in September 2008)). However, since it is reported that in a rat micronucleus test with oral administration (in vivo mutagenicity test using somatic cells), the substance was positive, and in a micronucleus test using rat and mouse bone marrow cells, the substance was positive (Mutagenesis, 12, 225-228 (1997)), it was classified into Category 2. As relevant information, it is documented that in a SEC test using mouse bone marrow cells after intraperitoneal administration (in vivo genotoxicity tests using somatic cells), the substance was positive (NTP DB (accessed in September 2008)), in both of a Ames test and a mouse lymphoma assay (both is an in vitro mutagenicity test), the substance was positive (NTP DB (accessed in September 2008)). 6 Carcinogenicity Not classified
-
-
- - Since the substance is rated Group 3 by the IARC (IARC Vol. 8 (1975)), it was classified into "Not classified". As relevant information, in a 103-week feeding test using mice and rats, the carcinogenicity was not determined in mice, but the increased incidence of hepatic tumors in rats was found (NTP TR-226 (1982)). 7 Reproductive toxicity Classification not possible
-
-
- - No data available. FY2008 GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (Sep, 2008)
8 Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure Classification not possible
-
-
- - No data available. FY2008 GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (Sep, 2008)
9 Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure Category 2 (kidney)

Warning

In a 13-week mixed diet test using mice, at the dose of 600 mg/kg being above the guidance value, necrosis and regeneration of the renal cortical tubular epithelium and lymphoid depletion of the thymus were observed (NTP TR-226 (1982)). In a 13-week mixed-diet test using rats, at a dose of 200 mg/kg, which is above the guidance value, hepatic degeneration was observed (NTP TR-226 (1982)), and at the doses of 25 and 50 mg/kg, which are within the Category 2 guidance values, pigment deposition in the tubular epithelium of the kidney cortex was observed (NTP TR-226 (1982)). Since it is described that in males, the pigment deposition was associated with nephrosis (NTP TR-226 (1982)), and in mice, also at doses above the guidance value range, necrosis and regeneration of the renal cortical tubular epithelium were detected, the substance was classified into Category 2 (kidney).
