- | - | Based on the LD50 values for rats of 2,700 to 2,800 mg/kg (ACGIH (7th, 2015), HSDB (Access on May 2016)) and 4,040 mg/kg (HSDB (Access on May 2016)), the substance was classified as "Not classified" (Category 5 in UN GHS classification). | FY2016 | GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.1)) |
1 | Acute toxicity (Dermal) | Not classified |
- |
- | - | Based on the LD50 value of >2,000 mg/kg for rabbits (HSDB (Access on May 2016)) and the report that no rabbits died at 2,000 mg/kg (ACGIH (7th, 2015)), the substance was classified as "Not classified." | FY2016 | GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.1)) |

1 | Acute toxicity (Inhalation: Dusts and mists) | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | Classification not possible due to lack of data. Besides, it is reported that LC50 value for rats is > 1,100 mg/m3/4h (ACGIH (2015)), however, the classification is not possible because the category cannot be determined. According to the GHS classification guidance for the Japanese government, the category was changed. |

2 | Skin corrosion/irritation | Not classified |
- |
- | - | As it was described that this substance was found to be irritating according to the Draize test on rabbits (ACGIH (7th, 2015)), and that score is 0.92 (minimal to slight irritation) in the original literature, it was judged as slight irritation. Therefore, the substance was classified as "Not classified" (Category 3 in UN GHS classification). | FY2016 | GHS Classification Guidance for the Japanese Government (FY2013 revised edition (Ver. 1.1)) |
3 | Serious eye damage/eye irritation | Category 1 |
Danger |
H318 | P305+P351+P338 P280 P310 |
It is reported that workers developed conjunctivitis from exposure to this substance existing in the air at the plant (ACGIH (7th, 2015)), and it was described that although severe but reversible irritation was observed in a Draize test using rabbits, it was classified as a corrosive (ACGIH (7th, 2015)). Therefore, the substance was classified in Category 1. Besides, this substance is classified as "H318 Eye Dam. 1" in EU CLP classification (ECHA C&L Inventory (Access on May 2016)). |

H334 | P304+P340 P342+P311 P261 P284 P501 |
There are several reports that workers handling this substance developed IgE- or IgG-mediated hypersensitivity (including rhinitis, asthma), and 8 out of 13 workers had positive reactions in the skin-prick test (ACGIH (7th, 2015)). Therefore, the substance was classified in Category 1. Besides, this substance is classified as "H334 Resp. Sens. 1" in EU CLP classification (ECHA C&L Inventory (Access on May 2016)). |

It was reported that in humans this substance caused anemia, headache, fever and dizziness in addition to transient irritating effects on skin, eyes, and the respiratory tract (HSDB (Access on May 2016)). Moreover, it was reported that in humans the irritative symptoms (itching, lacrimation, sneezing, rhinorrhoea, cough, and dyspnoea) begin immediately following exposure to high concentrations of dusts or vapours of cyclic acid anhydrides (CICAD 75 (2009)). Therefore, the substance was classified in Category 3 (respiratory tract irritation, narcotic effects). Besides, it is reported that decreased activity was observed in single dose tests by oral or inhalation in rats (HPVIS (Access on July 2016)), but the information was not adopted for the evidence of classification because it is not designated information source in the GHS classification guidance for the Japanese government. |
