1 | Acute toxicity (Oral) | Category 4 |
Warning |
H302 | P301+P312 P264 P270 P330 P501 |
Three LD50 values for rats of 290, 520 and 680 mg/kg bw were reported (JECFA WHO Food Additives Series 16 (1981)). Because two of them were equivalent to Category 4, the substance was classified as Category 4. | FY2010 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (July, 2010) |

5 | Germ cell mutagenicity | Not classified |
- |
- | - | The classification was concluded as "Not classified" based on the negative results in the micronucleus test using bone marrow obtained from mice orally administered (in vivo mutagenicity test in somatic cells) (NTP DB (Access on Oct. 2010)). As relevant information, as for in vitro studies, positive results in the Ames test and chromosome aberration test with metabolic activation, and negative results in the same tests without metabolic activation (NTP DB (Access on Oct. 2010)) were reported. | FY2010 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (July, 2010) |
6 | Carcinogenicity | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | This substance was classified as "Group 3" in the carcinogenicity criteria of the IARC. As relevant information, in the 103-week carcinogenicity study in rats, although the increase of renal tubule adenomas was not observed, the increase of adenomas of the kidney was observed without dose response after stopping administration. Although the hyperplasia of common bile ducts and renal tubules was observed in both sexes in the same study, the symptoms of liver recovered in the observation period without administration and renal tubule adenomas did not increase significantly (IARC 77 (2000) (National Toxicology Program (1993)). | FY2010 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (July, 2010) |
7 | Reproductive toxicity | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | In the feeding study using pregnant mice, which were administered during 6-17th day of gestation, there was no effect on the total number of implantations or on the proportions of resorptions, fetal deaths and fetal weight (IARC 77 (2000)). However, since no information was provided regarding sexual functions and fertility of parental animals, the classification was not possible. | FY2010 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (July, 2010) |
8 | Specific target organ toxicity - Single exposure | Classification not possible |
- |
- | - | No data available. | FY2010 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (July, 2010) |
9 | Specific target organ toxicity - Repeated exposure | Category 2 (liver, kidney) |
Warning |
H373 | P260 P314 P501 |
In the 2-year oral gavage study in rats (dose levels: 0, 25, 50 and 100 mg/kg/day), increases in the activity of GPT (ALT) and gamma-GTP which was accompanied by hepatic lesions containing hepatocellular necrosis, fibrosis, cytologic degeneration and increased severity of bile duct hyperplasia were observed in both sexes at doses of 50 and 100 mg/kg/day. And, increase in the incidence of nephropathy was noted in both sexes of the treatment group at the doses corresponding to Category 2 (NTP TR 422 (1993)). Based on the information, the substance was classified as Category 2 (liver, kidney). | FY2010 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (July, 2010) |

11 | Hazardous to the aquatic environment Short term (Acute) | Category 3 |
- |
H402 | P273 P501 |
Classified into Category 3 from its 48h-LC50 = 13.5 mg/L for crustacea (Daphnia magna) (AQUIRE, 2011). | FY2010 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (July, 2010) |
11 | Hazardous to the aquatic environment Long term (Chronic) | Not classified |
- |
- | - | Classified as "Not classified" since it is rapidly degradable (Readily biodegradable, BOD degradation rate: 100% (Biodegradation and Bioconcentration of Existing Chemical Substances under the Chemical Substances Control Law, 1977)) and its bioaccumulation potential is estimated to be low (Log Kow = 1.39 (PHYSPROP Database, 2011)) though its acute toxicity is Category 3. | FY2010 | GHS Classification Guidance by the Japanese Government (July, 2010) |
12 | Hazardous to the ozone layer | Classification not possible |
